The New Yankee Stadium and all those home runs!

There has been 20 home runs at the new Yankee Stadium in only a few games. The are saying that a wind tunnel that was created by the design of the stadium is responsible for carrying numerous balls over the right field fence.

Any opinions on whether this is a good or bad thing for baseball? It means more home runs and fans like home runs, but does it skew the stats too much?

I for one am not sure on this subject. Although I, like almost everyone else, loves the long ball. I think that the Yankees will be able to use this to their advantage quite a bit by signing people that pull the ball to right most of the time. This could then assure them quite a few wins at home.

I agree, it might make it harder for them to attract big name pitchers as free agents. Though, money seems to do the talking these days in baseball.

Yeah I know people love home runs, but if you really love the game home runs slow the game and get boring. I thought more stadium were trying to build so it was harder for home runs.

Another thing to consider. The old Yankee stadium has not been torn down as of yet. This will also effect the wind in the new stadium, for good or for bad.

That's very true! I hadn't thought about that.

If home runs make the game slow and boring?? I'll take boring, Pleeze.. these 1-0 games bore me to tears....

3 up 3 down, man out at first, pop fly and he's out, ground out at first, double play retires the side.... to me thats boring.

I'll take a little offense with my baseball If the Yankees Billion dollar Park turns into a hitters park, I wont be upset..

how many days until college football???

I love watching a great pitching dual and a 1-0 game. Don't get me wrong though. I love a high scoring game too.

I might not be considered a real baseball fan, so for me Home Runs=excitment they keep the game interesting, I can see how someone with an appreciation and better knowledge of the game might enjoy a 1-0 game...

Re: The New Yankee Stadium and all those home runs!

Could effect the outcome of the game, depending on who gets the better of the luck, but its just luck at that. Both teams play on the field and have the same chances.

Only thing I could see with this is the Yankees play on it for half the season (of course), which will raise their home runs for their players more than players on other teams and raise their statistics.

Sounds like something the Yankees would do, but there's no real proof behind it.

It doesn't matter how much money the Yankees spend on their roster or how hard thy try to build a stadium in their favour. They are not making the playoffs this year. The Jays and the Red Sox will make the playoffs out of this division.

I agree. Baseball isn't what is used to be. Most of these guys could care less about records, as long as the money is right.

Yup.

Mark Teixeira had an interview before the game with the Sox and said "I decided to go with the Yankees because I thought it was better off for my family". BULLSH*T. He did it because they offered him more money.
