At what point does a team draw the line? I mean you have players shooting themselves in the leg, getting drunk and killing someone while driving, killing dogs for sport - its just unreal

The saddest point is that we have millions of unemployed people in this world and then we have grown men shooting themselves, fighting dogs, and killing other people......all of which will/have served time in a Federal Penitentiary......and then they get paid millions of dollars like nothing at all happened!!!! Where is the line drawn!! I think Roger Goodell better rethink his strategy!!

I just knew once this POS got out of prison some team would sign him,,,and it wasn't more than a couple of months and here we are. I'm all for giving somebody a chance to rehab their life but why is it in such a high profile way where he signs for $1.6 million with the chance of getting over $5 million the next year in bonuses? It's a slap in the face to every animal that he killed, trained to kill, produced the whole environment if dog killing and he signs a contract where people will once again cheer him? Makes me sick,,wish I lived in Philly so I could buy a season ticket just so that I could boo this scumbag for 4 quarters.

Re: Vick has landed!

Most felons have trouble finding work once they're released because employers do background checks and shy away from hiring felons. Some businesses have a formal policy against hiring felons and won't even consider the person at all. It's interesting to see that the NFL, an organization that in a major way influences American youth, does not practice this policy.

However, I would say that blanket policies against hiring felons does more harm than good and people should be considered on a case by case basis. Do I think MV should be prevented from ever working again for the rest of his life after having done his time? No, I do not. He's done his time and should be permitted to work. I personally believe that in this case, the criminal has learned his lesson. But if the league is going to make this kind of move, I think it may have been wise for them to put special sanctions on his contract. Perhaps 70% of his income could go to PETA for the first year, and then 50% the next year and so on. Special sanctions for a special situation. If he didn't agree, then he would be welcome to go look for a job elsewhere. There are many ways this could have been played so that it was more appealing to the public and sent a better message to young people.

On a more cynical note, let's face it: The days of major sports franchises being a reliable source for "heroes" and role models are over. It's entertainment and it's big money. Don't look for heroes there.

Re: Vick has landed!

I'm gonna take a lot of crap over this but..........

....... First of all let me say that I believe what he did was a terrible thing. I am an animal lover. ( I have 4 dogs, and all are rescue dogs from either a kill shelter or humane society) But does the man not deserve a second chance? He served his time, he served more time than Stallworth who drove drunk and killed someone. We have put animal life on a higher level than human life. Now I'm not saying whether or not he got what he deserved. That is not for me to decide. But I will say many many people have committed crimes on human life and served less time. So I say give the guy a chance, he says he sorry. Who am I to say whether he is or not. I am willing take his word for it until he proves otherwise.

Common sense right here.

I won't give you crap or even raise a slight stink,,,as a human being I want to agree with you about giving people a chance. What has Mr. Vick done since his release to inspire anyone to think he's going to change his life? Has he gone out and told anyone by his words or actions to even suggest that he's going to change? Nope, he's going back to the very thing where he knows there is $$$$ to be earned. He knows the environment of the NFL is about money even though they claim to be a family oriented company who is dedicated to the advancement of a clean sport,,,,a huh,,,lots of swampland available in this credo. If Mr. Vick is going to be a changed man his actions will define him,,,not his moves on a football field. First thing he did getting out of prison was to go directly to a Strip Club. Yeah, this is what you do when you make those all important changes in your life,,,you go to places where all the right people congregate. I give this guy one season and you will see him in the headlines once again,,,it's his nature and he's proven it by how he walks, not how he talks.

Re: Vick has landed!

I do understand your point. And I totally respect your opinion. My only point is, it Vick was a ditch digger, bus boy, garbage man, ect no one would care if he went back to the same job. We hold him to higher standard because of his job. Is that fair? I don't know. As far as the strip club goes, well let's just say I have no right to judge anyone on that matter. But it is legal.
If he is back in the news for criminal activity then he deserves whatever he gets.

Fact is in this country's history that is a true statement. Child Protective Services was based on a model of laws that where in place to protect animals, I know that is hard to believe but yes there where laws in this country protecting animals before children. Of course it doesn't make it right.

He missed 3 years of football because of what he did, I can't say I agree with letting him come back but he did serve his time. I never thought he was a great QB and I just hope he falls flat on his face!
