Re: The Baseball Thread

Been too embarrassed to post after what the W-Sox and Tigers did to my Cards. Heck, we were lucky to take one from the Indians. Snapped an 8-game losing streak ... the longest since 1988. The only good news is that we get to play KC now. If they wup up on us ... then I guess it's time to just dig a hole and crawl into it.

The starting rotation is a mess and when we get a well-pitched game ... the bats disappear. Reyes pitched a one-hitter against the Sox ... unfortunately it was a homerun and we lost 1-0.

I can't believe we are still in 1st place. Don't really look forward to meeting either the Sox or Tigers in the WS ... that is if we pull ourselves together and make it that far.

We won in '84, Alexander trade was in '87 when we won the pennant and lost to the Twins. Alexander had 2 decent seasons, went down hill in '89 then retired. Smoltz went on to have a stellar career.

We already have one of the best starting staffs and pens in the league, full of young talent. Plus we have a minor league system full of promising pitchers. I can't see us giving that up to improve an already solid staff.

Great guy, hated to see him go, looks like he'll be a quality catcher for a long time, BUT he couldn't catch the knuckler from Wakefield so he had to go.

So I think our record is also indicative of the brutal schedule that we are playing as well it is reflective of the glaring lack of quality pitching! It'd be a shame if we broke the single season loss record because I'm convinced that our record would be 5-10 games better if we were not in the AL Central. Oh well, at least we are spanking the National League Central (except for the Cards )! Go Royals!
I love it! NOW, there is a true fan! Good to see you are true to the boys in blue!

My Orioles are having another tough season. I hope the hammer doesn't drop again with the Jason Grimsley mess. I can take losing, but I cannot stand when my team becomes a laughingstock because of all the mess that surrounds the game.

Re: The Baseball Thread

Woohoo ... the Cards won 2 in a row. The longest winning streak we've had during June.

Re: The Baseball Thread

White Sox are holdin strong. don't look too good against the sox of a different variety these last two days. but hey, hangin with detroit and up a decent amount on new york for the wild card.

i'm just interested to see if kenny williams is gonna make a trade. possibly a reliever, don't know who. maybe a center fielder, not sure who's exactly on the market. not worried though, 3 4 and 5 are doin alright and our pitching will hopefully come around to what they were last year.

Re: The Baseball Thread

Dodgers and probably MLB can count on never seeing Gagne pitch again. He's now the reincarnation of Darren Dreifort, except that Gagne had 3 incredibly productive years. If the rest of the Dodgers can stay healthy for the remainder of the year, they have a good shot at the playoffs (NL West is weak) but they don't have the starting pitching to go past one round.

It's been wonderful seeing Nomar's return.

Mets - St. Louis will be the NL playoff finals and the healthiest team will win.

Anyone but Boston or Yankees in the AL would suit me fine.
