Being a big footy fan, I have followed all of the people involved in this sorry drama. I can believe Mazzaratti antagonized Zidane. But, Zidane had to keep his cool and help his team, not take care of something personal. He went a long way in losing the World Cup for France.

I disagree that it is a "wimpy" headbutt. I agree with the Oscar performance and the ? about it possibly knocking him to the ground. It was definitely violent in that a head is basically an 8-10 lb bowling ball and both men were walking towards each other. I know I would not like to have someone walk towards me with a bowling ball and basically shove it in my chest at the last minute. It would hurt.

Oh and I'm glad France lost but I'm not glad the Italians won so it was a lose lose for me. I will say that Zidane and Henry were the best players in the match and the only reason it was entertaining.

I beg to differ. The reason this sport will never be popular in the USA is because it involves running for forty-five minutes, sucking on half a lemon, and then running for another forty-five minutes.

US fans won't watch it because it demands concentration.

US networks won't carry it because the game doesn't stop every few minutes for lite-beer and monster truck commercials.

US atheletes won't play it because they're too lazy.

I was in the same boat as you, but I was pulling for France. Italy's defense minded play is awful to watch (IMHO), but they are the very best defenders in the world and deserve their championship. I just wish Germany with their free flowing game could have won... oh well.

That just about sums it up. I can't even watch the NBA or NFL any more with all the commercials and stopped play.

All i heard was that the man insulted his mother in such a way that even I would have headbutt'ed the offender. Some times when your that high in the spot light people around you will do anything to make your walls come crashing down. He did what he had to, and did it damn good =]. Now that looked liek it hurt , but soccer afterall is known for the BIGGEST pain=fakers in the world so who knows.

Re: Your thoughts on Zidane's headbutt in the World Cup Final.

I think it's crap that this guy got the World Cup MVP. Unlike some of you, I actually like watching World Cup soccer and find the sport to be enjoyable for the non violent type of sport that it is. Headbutts, fake injuries and the like take away from the sport and should be heavily penalized.

I'm a huge hockey fan and think that giving Zidane the MVP is like giving Todd Bertuzzi the The Hart Trophy (MVP) in 2004 after ending Steve Moores career with a vicious hit from behind.

p.s The Zidane game is a riot!!!

Gotta disagree with you 909-Zidane was far away the best player in the World Cup and he is one of the best in the world at the moment, which is what the award is awarding. Zidane is not normally like that-the headbutt was a one off provoked by a racist comment [and racism was the one big issue the world cup was a bout tackling]. mazeratti had it coming and the award deserved to go to Zidane for the years of entertainment and service hes given the sport!
