A thought on Brett Favre

Overrated... I honestly have always thought he was among the worst decision making quarterbacks in the history of the NFL, yet he always gets a pass. Sure the guy has 400 touchdowns, but how many stupid throws has he made into triple coverage, especially in the last two years.... Granted the guy is a warrior and has a cannon for an arm, but I am tired of the "gunslinger" moniker that John Madden has given him. When Eli, or Peyton, or Mcnaab, Culpepper, and especially Plummer throw into triple coverage its a bad move... I am so tired of Farve getting the pass on his stupid throws, sure he has a superbowl but so do plenty of other average quarterbacks...
On the side note, alot of this fustration is due to Favre basically tanking my fantasy season last year lol, JK...

A lot of a sports prefessionals careers are not his stats, alot is his drive, determination, and the ability to win games by any means necessary.

Yah, how bout the fact that he has a love for the game matched by almost no one....the fact that even at his age on screens he is diving out on defensive linemen to cut block him. He would do anything to win a game and the only reason he had so many interceptions last year is because the recieving core sucked and he tried to win games.....he doesn't care about his stats he wants to win. I will stand behind Brett Favre until the day he does...he will always be Green Bay's QB in my eyes

Re: A thought on Brett Favre

I personally have enjoyed his style of play over the years. No woulda coulda shoulda with him. Leave it all on the field for four quarters and let the chips fall where they may. I suspect his success rate throwing into triple coverage might get un-noticed while the total dumbass plays garner the pundents attention. He's the ultimate gamer who at the end of the day, left no bullets in the chamber.

If you wouldn't have said it I would. I think he forces the ball just to try to win, which is what he had to do the past couple of years. You don't get three MVPs just chucking the ball all over the field. I never get sick of watching him play, and I get to every week as a Pack fan. You are mad at him for throwing an INT into double coverage, then the next drive he leads the team down the field for a game winning TD. Always fun to watch.

Re: A thought on Brett Favre

Is it time for him to hang up the cleats? Maybe, but it might be different if he had a team around him. Has he made desperate throws and bad decisions? Sure, but if you don't you aint trying to win. He doesn't make those bad throws when his team is up by 14 or more, it's usually when he's trying to make something from nothing. You can't measure the heart and competitiveness this guy has. I remember watching him play that Monday night after his father passed away, what a performance! I had tears rolling down my cheeks. It's obvious who my team is, and I'm not a Packer fan, but it's hard to believe that anybody who's a fan of the game isn't a fan of Brett Favre.

Re: A thought on Brett Favre

Brett Farve is a man of a man. He's a true leader and once put off an interview so he could mow his lawn, you tell me how many other multi-millionaire NFL players are out there still mowing their own lawns...

That said, he should have retired. He doesn't have the zip he used to, and can't make the kinds of throws he once could. It's sad to see a great player fade-out like he is. Still, I've got the utmost respect for him and he's a no-doubter first ballot hall of famer.

I couldn't have said it better. I'd gladly trade you JP Losman for Brett.

I am a Vikings fan, but I have always respected Favre as a very talented athlete. I do, however, think that his time is up. He played great ball several years ago, but now things are going down hill...and fast.

It should be a good game.....FOR ME TO POOP ON!! (sorry I couldn't resist the Triumph quote...I know it doesnt make sence)

I would make a down the hill/over the hill joke...but Brad Johnson is older than Favre.

Re: A thought on Brett Favre

I agree with yachties. I think he is/was a really great player but it's getting to the point where people are just treating him good because he's so close to retiring. Noone wants to give him hell because he'll be out in a year or two anyway so whats the point.

I remember a couple years ago, i can't remember exactly when or who it was against. But Favre was in a tough spot and took a hard hit and had to sit on the bench for a little while. The backup QB (i cant remember his name) came into the came, got out of the 3rd and long and drove down to the redzone. When they were less than 10 yards from getting in, favre jumped up from the benches ran to the field and threw the winning TD then jumped around like a lil kid, and everyone showered him with praises like they always do, saying how much heart he had.
