I can see LT knocking someone off of my list in a couple of years. He has the ability to land ontop of all the greats.

Bo Jackson was a top RB and great to watch, but he doesn't make it.

Of course he doesn't if you look at stats. But when looking how talented he was, he would have easily had the stats of these others on list list. Now I know part of being great is having the longevity and staying injury free but you can't deny Bo's talent.

Anyone of these guys could play on my team. As for as Sanders quitting, ownership quit on him long before he quit on them. They were making big money because of him and would never try and get him any help. The guy wanted to win, it wasn't about the money at that stage of his career.

This is tough. Longevity at the positon sometimes skews the stats. I have to ponder when I am at home.

Durability is definitely a factor into how great a player is/was. T. Davis could have been a great RB, but was he? Really! He would have been. Four top years and then squat. I will give him an edge over many for busting 2K.

But to see how great a player is and to label them so, they have to be durable to be able to play long enough to be judged.

let me explain why i am doing this.. i work at a sports bar, and this debate comes up ALL the time! (see also the quarteback thread) But what i want to do is get more opinions to see where we stand)

Can't argue at all with this list but somehow I want to get Riggins on there ... maybe I would drop Faulk, no, gotta be #11. Also, gotta have OJ. So I would drop Sayers for OJ.

IMO, Jim Brown was the best ever. Emmitt had the best vision of any running back and Barry Sanders had the best pure athleticism/instinct of any running back. Walter Payton had what Emmitt and Barry had all in one package.

Good point! The only other RB /w B. Sanders who rushed for more than 1K in their first 10 seasons. I think it would be hard not to push him onto the list.

Barry Sanders-Ran behind no line, with no other offensive threat for 2000 yards...
Jim Brown- A man among boys in his day
Earl Campbell- Career ruined by overuse- but incredibly talented
OJ Simpson-Juice
Walter Payton- The consumate team player
Eric Dickerson- Amazing combination of power and speed
John Riggins- So underrated a running back
Franco Harris- Pains me to put him down, but incredibly clutch
Thurman Thomas- Would hold the rushing record if he played for Cowboys
Emmit Smith- Career complier, but really tough and incredibly durable
