Actually, Francona would be a perfect manager for the Yankees. He is a players manager who is good at putting out fires in the clubhouse and sheilding his players from the press during bad times. He might keep peace between A-Rod and Jeeter.

THe Yankees more or less manage themselves. Or at least they did until their middle releif became a problem. THere are very few decisions the manager needs to make.

Actually he said "Yankees suck" in that post. This time he said "YankMEES suck".

Soo I think he is trying to be creative here.

Apparantly the latest reports are saying Torre will stay. I still think at this point, they would probably benefit from a change.

I agree

But an all time great manager? Not even close. He is lucky enough to manage the team with the highest payroll in baseball in the free agency era. He has pretty much had the best offensive team for the past decade and in that time, they have signed a lot ov very high profile starters. He has a closer who is almost automatic if you give him a 1 run lead going into the eight inning. He has gone into every season with the most talented team on paper.

Also agree

The simple fact is, he could have won 6, 7 or 8 WS given the amount of talent. He is not even the best manager in baseball today. Trying to call him an all time great is a stretch, even if he did do it in the wildcard era.

This is too speculative for me to agree or disagree, I would definately say we could have got 1-2 more.

I'm glad cooler head's prevailed and that Joe gets to stay for one more year. My Knee Jerk reaction was to fire him but, your not gonna find a better Manager than Joe. I say trade A-Rod and get a decent young Pitcher and say Bye-Bye to Sheffield, Mussina and Wright.

Cashman said A-Rod was staying also.

That is GM speal for we are currently looking for a trade.

I wonder if SF182 would welcome him to the Redsoxs?

There were a couple of good ones out there this year. That may not be the case next year. But are they an upgrade? Maybe not. But if they fire him during the wrong offseason, they risk adowngrade. Maybe he needs an assistant who can better manage the egos in clubhouse. That really seemed to be a lot of the problem for them this year.

For any Yankee Haters who want to read a gloating Yankee Post Mortem...this one is actually pretty good.

This was my favorite stat!!! To think that Red Sox fans were pissed when they did not get A-Rod

Quote:
A-Rod went 1-for-14 (.071) to drop his playoff average to .109 (5-for-46) since the Yankees led the Red Sox 3-0 in the 2004 ALCS. Rodriguez has now gone 12 playoff games without an RBI.
