Travelling to Spring Training
A couple of friends of mine and I are trying to figure out the most cost effective way to go down to spring training in Florida. A friend of ours lives overseas and wants to come back for a visit and have of us all get together at a central location and we all thought spring training would be a great idea. Unfortunatly none of us has a lot of money, (students, having a wedding etc...) So if we want to do this we are going to have to find a way to do it on a budget. Our main issue is to find cheap housing. We are looking at going to the Tampa Area and have found cheap flights but are hesitating because of hotel costs. Anyone know of cheap condos, timeshares whatever that would have a kitchen and room for 4 guys to crash? Does anyone in the flordia crew have any suggestions/insider info? If doesn't happen it doesn't happen we can always do something else but it seems like a fun idea. Thanks in advance.

Hopefully for you Cubs fans, this year will be the next year that you have been waiting for. I wrote that as a Red Sox fan who understands. Paul

Re: Travelling to Spring Training
You are going to have a car anyway, so stay just otside of Tampa.
This will bring the cost down per room a lot.

As far as cheap housing, look into camp grounds and renting a camper.

Re: Travelling to Spring Training
Arizona is unfortunatly out due to a number of factors. Good luck to your cubbies though. Love going to Wrigley myself. I'll look into the other suggestions getting out of the city proper or renting a camper/RV of some kind would be great. An RV would be awesome cuz we could tailgate out of it. Thanks guys.

Re: Travelling to Spring Training
If you are coming to Florida I would suggest Lakeland. You can fly to Tampa or Orlando, whichever is cheaper on that day and both have about a 40 min ride to Lakeland. Lakeland has the Tigers and a very nice stadium to watch a spring training game. They recently re-vamped the stadium and it is beautiful. Rooms are going to be easier to find. Ticket prices for the tigers are also a good deal.
