Amazing! Glad to hear it. I thought for sure he was going out, but the love of the game pushes him on!

YES! Now we need to just draft a top RB.
(edited) And find 11 guys to play defense. I think with the number of young players on that side of the ball with this past year under their belt will help build a stronger D for next year.

Congrats Jim....Green Bay will have a better QB than the Bears for at least one more season.

Re: Favre to return for his 17th season!
Being from Detroit, I've always wondered this about GB fans.....
Do you really want Favre back? How could you? Obviously padding the streak and getting Marino's record will be great personal things for Favre, but is he really helping the team???? No. If anything, he's holding them hostage. If Favre comes back next year, he's obviously going out on his own terms, which means if he stays healthy he will start every game next season. The rest of your team isn't good enough (with or without Favre) to get to the playoffs, correct? So what good does another year of Favre get you? He's basically wasting your first round pick in Aaron Rogers. Rogers can't sit on the bench for an entire year again can he? He's not going to get any playing time as long as Favre is healthy, because Favre won't let himself go out like that. So where do you guys go in 2009? You're stuck in the same place you were last year. And this year. And will be next year. You've got a first-round QB sitting on your bench, tying up first-round money, and not developing whatsoever. You'd almost be better off packaging Rogers with some other young players and trying to pick up Schaub from Atlanta (or Vick for that matter). At least then you'd have someone who's ready to take over when Favre finally does decide to step down. As it is right now, you're just pushing your "rebuilding" project out an extra year, aren't you? By the time the rest of your team is ready to compete again, you're going to hand the ball over to a quarterback with only a handful of NFL snaps? That's just wasting all these rebuilding years! (Believe me, if anybody knows about wasting rebuilding years, it's somebody from Detroit. )Anyway... I'll go back to complaining about the Fords and Matt Millen again. ![]() |

Re: Favre to return for his 17th season!
I would get rid of Rogers for Schaub any day of the week. I don't think Rogers is the future for the Pack. Course many years ago there was a young gunslinger that got traded over from Atlanta that wasn't very good too....so we shall see, waiting (and hoping) for him to prove me wrong. But IDC..I would support Favre as my quarterback if he wanted to play till he was 50.

Re: Favre to return for his 17th season!
This is great news for several reasons. Favre at his age is still better than so many QBs in the league. He can't win games single-handedly though, which has been demonstrated over the last several seasons. The Pack needs to find someone who can stay healthy and catch the dang ball. They can, and should, contninue to rebuild around him. Plus, Favre has been the first to say that if he can't perform at some point during the season he'll completely understand if they make a change. But even then, what better mentor for the next QB than Brett Favre? GO PACKERS!!!

Re: Favre to return for his 17th season!
Those who say GB is wasting their time are not a Packer Fan.
Those that are... welcome him back and know why too. He is one of so few these days in the NFL that "IS" about team. The current team rallyes around him as the old team we had when we went to the SB. Rodgers can find a new home or wait. GB can always find a great replacement. Best bet is to go with Brett, rather than waste 3-5 seasons trying to get a team that rallyes around one another. So go back and lay on that couch, shud up and watch one of the best QB's make winning history with his team! ![]()

Re: Favre to return for his 17th season!
I am really sad over this news. I like the Packers. I want every team in the Central Division to do well. Favre is crippling the evolution of the Packers. His performance has been flagging and he is crippling the development of any new QB (or keeping away any good prospects). I feel bad for anyone that has to follow in his HUGE footsteps. He is definitely one of the best ever, but it's time for him to reallize his limitations. If he was truly a team player he would be willing to mentor a new QB, but he has said he won't do that. It's no longer about the success of the Packers. it's about soothing his ego. That's a bad investment for the Packers. I am not looking forward to a great player falling down the slippery slope of ego and age.

Re: Favre to return for his 17th season!
If Steve Young could wait for Montana...I think Rogers can wait for Favre. For those that think Favre can't play anymore, I bet at least 20 teams in the NFL would take him as a starter tomorrow:
Oakland / Buffalo / Chicago / Atlanta Baltimore / Jets / Minnesota / Tampa KC / Miami / Detroit Cleveland / Giants / SF Houston / Dallas / Arizona Jacksonville / Washington / Carolina He would make any of these teams instantly better the first day he walked in the door. Shit, if any GB fan really wants to see Rogers play over Favre, I feel for you when that plays out. **Arizona is the only one I think that a serious argument can be made that the current starter might be better than Favre next year. |

Re: Favre to return for his 17th season!
He is not as good as he was 5 years ago but the guy still has the ability to play. So I say go right ahead and play. He still gives them the best chance to win I think.
