Re: Prince at half time ...
I am not a huge fan of his genre. I like a few songs, but they guy is pretty damn talented. You notice any lip syncing - I don't think so. He is a true performerand has been said - he shreds that guitar. I always had respect for him, but he just pushed it way up after that version of Hendrix "All along the Watchtower".
He is a real talent - and his dancers are always hot as hell!!!!!!!! Cheers, BillyBarue

Re: Prince at half time ...
Guess I'm gonna be in the minority and post a "negative, Ghostrider" on Prince's canned performance. First, ding on the medley format; second, dredging up ONLY his standards ("Purple Rain," "1999," et al) plus some culturally co-opted and heavily edited classics; third, just agreeing to appear in this format.
I love the guy and admire his musical talents, but I don't think we saw anything significant here. Safe as the Rolling Stones after Nipplegate? No. But given that basement from which to start, I'd like to at least have seen him perform complete songs--as if this were a real performance and not a tooty-fruity multi-million-dollar off-broadway extravaganza. My expectations are higher for someone of his artistic calibre. (caveat: I was a music journalist for 9 years, so you should definitely take all above with a pound of salt, as music journos are generally a salty bunch ) |

Re: Prince at half time ...
I was really surprised at how great a performer he is. A musician's performance is half his battle, and Prince is a damn good performer. I still don't think it will make me buy one of his cd's though.

Re: Prince at half time ...
I think the guy wails on the guitar, period. Tough to deny his talent, but some people will just to hear themselves. Those who can't do, become critics.
I loved that he did Foo Fighters' "Best of You", that was the highlight for me.

Completely agree. Was very surprised he did the Foo's cover, but he did a good job of it. Was wondering throughout the performance, how much had to be modified due to the weather. He seemed to work through it though. |

Re: Prince at half time ...
First of all, let me say this: I'm a big Metal and Country music fan, but this man can simply play the guitar. By today's standards, being able to play the music is now down towards the bottom of the list, while "relevence" and appearance play a much more prominent role. The man can play the guitar unlike many in the industry, and I really hope people took note of that during the show. Although I'm a Slash, Eddie, D. Darrell fan, he can play with them almost any day of the week (although it might not be as loud!).
