Re: Prince at half time ...
Prince is the shit.... plain and simple... I don't admit it to most of the guys I work with but I have almost every Prince album ever released (which is a friggin' LOT)
![]() Dug his cover of the Foo Fighters song, thought he could have played a few more eclectic tunes but I understand he's got to appeal to Millions watching out there so I was cool with the big hits. Purple Rain in the rain.... shit, might as well spank my ass and call me Charlie... that was the poo. "How about you and your Crew take on me... and the Revolution!" ![]() |

I have to disagree with you on a number of things. Sure the medley format and the standards are not what you would expect from a good live show but this was not a real live show format. I am sure those choices were out of his hands and based entirely on the event and audience. Essentially he was hired to give "a tooty-fruity multi-million-dollar off-broadway extravaganza" and at least tried to make it rock. The fact that he didn't trot out the radio versions of these songs and played them in an original way that was unique to this performance and there was real passion and energy to the performance makes him the first halftime performer in a long time that didn't just mail it in. I also think that he was true to his performance style and there was a lot less crap and people on the stage than ususal. It was him a couple of musicians and 3 dancers. Usually it is like watching a circus in an elevator on the actual stage during the halftime show. We are never again in the history of the Super Bowl going to get anything like a good authentic live show. The half time show is only about spectacle and nothing else. The fact he did as much with it as he did and that I enjoyed his performance says a lot about how good a musician and showman he is IMHO.

Either them or Slayer. Couldn't you just see Kerry King 's bald tattooed head thrashing, and shredding the guitar in front of millions, while South of Heaven plays.Sorry for the thread Jack CBF ![]()

Re: Prince at half time ...
gvarsity nailed it. With the time allowed, and the audience that watches the Super Bowl, Prince provided a wonderful halftime show. "The Kid" rocked.

Re: Prince at half time ...
I think Prince is a very good guitarist and can still sing..Prince writes alot of Music for other artist and at first I thought he wrote that song for the Foo Fighters but they both cover each others music..I like the Foo Fighter version better but his show rocked it imo..The doo rag was dumb but thats Prince for ya..

yep, whether you like him or not, Prince is amazing at what he does, period. I think he may be a wierdo, but damn, he can play the guitar.

I had no idea he was such a good guitar player. Definitely painted him in a new light in my eyes. All in all I enjoyed the show. Didn't save the ugly game however.

Re: Prince at half time ...
I live in Minneapolis and have been hanging out with Prince since the mid 80's. His music style isn't my cup of tea but the man is a true musical genius. Of course they wanted a white bread medley for the half time show but he did it in great form. The Hendrix, Turner, Foo Fighters covers were genius. (I put on both Foo Fighters and Prince shows, anyone who thinks FF could outperform Prince needs to smoke something other than cigars.) I hate to say it, but I think his little religious revival has made him a better performer. He concentrates more on his musicianship rather than trying to grab groupies for after the show. Granted we don't get to hear "Darling Nickie" anymore but that's a small sacrifice to see this man truly enjoy playing music again. Considering the Aerosmith/ RUN DMC travesty of a few years ago, or the Janet Jackson fiasco (my ex-gf designed her costume and yes...it was supposed to give way). This went way beyond any Wonder Bread performances of recent history.
