Michael Irvin fired from job at ESPN

Michael Irvin has lost his ESPN gig, barely two weeks after being elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Dallas Cowboys' all-time leading receiver spent four years as an NFL studio analyst for the all-sports network.

ESPN decided Friday "as part of an annual evaluation" not to exercise an option in Irvin's contract, it was confirmed Saturday.

"Michael Irvin will not be returning to ESPN," network spokesman Bill Hofheimer said.

"We thank him for his contributions and wish him well."

"It's fine," Irvin said Saturday night. "These are exciting times for me and my family. There are a lot of opportunities to explore."

Leaving ESPN is not his wish; however, Irvin will leave taking the high road.

"I truly appreciate what ESPN allowed me to do, but it was time to move on," said Irvin, who has been surrounded by controversy twice in the past 15

Thank god, I'm sorry but most of the stuff that came out of his mouth was just pure stupidity. I mean throwing something out there every once in awhile that doesn't make alot of sense may be alright, but not every time you open your mouth.

Just to make a point, being fired is much different than not having the option year picked up on a contract. He was not "fired".

Re: Michael Irvin fired from job at ESPN

I guess your right, but with the bad job review (evaluation) and this years personal problems... the option not to pick up is a nice, "PC", way of saying fired. I felt this was coming and I thought it would happen sooner the later...

Michael Irvin sucked as a sportscaster. That's the long and short of it...glad to see him go.

I'm a big Irvin fan but I will agree that he sucked as a sportscaster. Word is that the Tuna may take his place. Another angry ESPN guy...LOL

Isn't taking the "high" road how he got in trouble in the first place?

Well I just wished they would've fired Kornheiser or Theismann first. What they have done to MNF is the same thing Kobe did to that white girl in Colorado!

Re: Michael Irvin fired from job at ESPN

I liked his game on the field, but didn't care for his work in broadcasting. I think he just simply likes to here himself talk, even though most of the time he's saying absolfarginglutely nothing. I think he was one of the recievers that changed the way the position was played in his time.

Only person harder to understand broadcasting football is Shannon Sharpe. It's like listening to Mush Mouth from Fat Albert.
