07 NFL Draft Thread

The draft is a little over 2 months away. What positions does your team need to shore up. Which starter needs to be replaced. Who would you like to see your team draft.

Chicago is my team.

I agree with the masses, Grossman is not the answer at QB, but there will be no one available at pick 31 in the draft that can step right in - so Grossman keeps the job by default (for awhile at least).

I would like to see the Bears take a TE or OL with their first round pick. TE's include Olsen (Miami, FL) and Miller (ASU). Some lineman that could be available at the end of the first round include Levi Brown (PSU) --> although he seems to be soaring up the draft boards lately --> Blalock (TX) and Sears (Tenn.).

Desmond Clark is a solid TE, but the offense could use another target for Grossman. The OL is solid, but getting old. Some new blood to get groomed for eventual replacement needs to be addressed now.

Other areas that need to be addresed are WR, LB and secondary. Muhammed isn't getting younger, and no one has really stepped up. How long can Chicago keep Lance Briggs and Hillenmeyer is a decent LB, but could always be replaced. The Bears would be wise to draft another hybrid back a la Danieal Manning that can play safety or cornerback to protect from injury.

On draft day, I can see the Bears doing the same thing they did last year -- trading out of the first round to pick up extra picks. This would be the best decision for them, PROVIDED, they do not trade down too far and lose out on Miller and/or Olsen.

My team will draft 3rd or 4th depending on a coin flip. They need so much help in so many positions, that it is wide open to what direction they may go.

Now what do the SuperBowl Champions need???

hmmmmm......

Seriously, it depends on how much they get vultured this year by the not so successful teams. Every year they lose Pro Bowl players, so I expect this year to be no different. They franchised Freeney, but are at risk for losing Cato June (another former Pro Bowler) at linebacker, as well as Rhodes at running back.

I expect them to try to pick up a wide body at DT (this depends on whether or not Corey Simon will be rehabiliteated or not), as well as another run stuffing linebacker.

Re: 07 NFL Draft Thread

I've been one of those types that I hate... 49er & Raider fan (background, all my buddies are Raider fans and they always invite me to Raider games w/ free tickets... so I follow both).

In any case, Raiders made the first move and cut Aaron Brooks. Finally. Now, I think they need to go out and draft Jamarcus Russell. After that, some o-line help. 6-8 & 260 won't mean a damn thing if he is consistantly under pressure. Also, some running back help would be good too.

49ers are picking 11th (I think). Defense, Defense, Defense. Very thin at the line (undersized too). Secondary is under-performing. Also, some right side help to go along with Larry Allen on the o-line will only help out the running game. Need some receivers also. So many needs but the 9ers also are well under the cap. Hopefully we can land some key free agents... namely the LB from Baltimore. We'll see.

rumor has it that the Nation is talking with Houston....the Texans are willing to part with QB David Carr for just a 3rd Round pick. I say done deal, draft Russell and shop Moss and Porter and take what you can get.

Vikings

They need a WR. They need other spots but WR is i think the biggest need. Have not looked enough to see about who would be around and who might not be. Hoping for Gin jr?

Re: 07 NFL Draft Thread

The Bucs could draft any position and it'd be the right pick.

Lions...

Too many holes to fill at this point.

We don't really need Calvin Johnson, although he will be the best "impact" player available at that point.

Joe Thomas seems to be the only top-tier type guy that would address our needs, as we don't really need Alan Branch on the D-line.

As always I'd like to see them trade down to get more picks, but there's not a whole lot of teams who are willing and/or able to do that anymore with the draft being such a crapshoot.

*sigh*... the life of a Lions' fan.

Re: 07 NFL Draft Thread

Is there any truth to the rumor that the Bengals are going to draft a defense attorney and a probation officer with their first two picks? On a more serious note, the Patriots need 2 linebackers, 1 inside and 1 outside; cornerback; safety; a left tackle would be nice, and possibly a wide receiver to replace Chad Jackson who will probably miss next season with a torn ACL and was a bust as a second round pick last year.

Vikings!

I agree they need a wide receiver but the need a pass rushing end a safety a pass catching tight end a right guard and right tackle as well. First round rookie wide receivers are 8/10 times not going to step in and contribute the first year particularly as the #1/only receiver. I think they are way better off drafting the BPA. Even if it's Brady Quinn take him I like T. Jack but San Diego showed you what you can do by having two top QB around. Let them compete or trade one/or the pick for an experienced WR and picks. Just MHO.

On the first quote, I would love for an alumnus from my school (LSU) to come to Houston and show up Carr, but I heard reports on the radio station that the Texans are looking at a 3rd round QB from the University of Houston.

On the second quote, I think with some more practice and professional muscle building, JaMarcus will be even more of a scrambler than he was in college ball. If you have looked at some video, he has the stance of an oak tree and takes poundings in the same nature. I think under constant pressure he will still be able to flick the ball accurately but you are right that he needs a spectacular offensive line to protect that arm, but watch him when he gets out of the pocket...damn.

I believe the reports stated that he can:

Throw the ball 40 yards sitting indian style
Throw the ball 65 yards on his knees
Throw the ball 80 yards on the run
and Throw the ball 100 yards on his backfoot.

While I hope Russell does well, I saw film of Kyle Boller throwing a ridiculous amount of yards from his knees when he was at the combine. Would you want him as your quarterback?

From what I have read, arm strength is not the question. It seems that the above the neck strength is the fear.
