what an outstanding article. I'll tell you, guys like Jones are lucky I'm not the D.A. handling their case, because there would be some people doing some serious time. and i means years not weeks or months. Jamal Lewis wouldn't have to worrry about being cut by the Ravens, because his drug dealing ass would still be in prison. Not trying to be a hard ass, but if you take a Barry Bonds, Peyton Manning,, Randy Johnson type person (not saying any of these guys are criminals, I picked them for their stature) and give them 5 years for the crime, you will start getting peoples attention and this crap will stop. |

Great article and long overdue, I agree. Now, if we could also add in hollywood celebrities and the like then maybe we'll start getting somewhere.

Well written article. A little confrontational with a lot of finger pointing - but that is probably what is needed.
Upshaw saying that 10% of players are the problem means maybe he should be 10% harder on those 10% of players. The toughest military training programs I went through started with the instructors saying "look to your left and look to your right - 1 of the three of you (33%) won't be here at the end". Strangely those numbers were about right on the button. If Upshaw and the Union want to keep making excuses and giving a pass for the bottom 10%, than he and the league are going to see a continued decline of the other 90% - IMO. FWIW, BillyBarue

The authorities should have gone hard core when they let Ray Lewis skate out of a murder conspiracy charge in the same year that they nailed Caruth. As far as some of the other offenders who are allowed to pay their debt to society in their off time, I would like to see an offender who is not a professional athlete or other high profile personality get over like this.
