Keenan coming to Calgary!

It is all over the news here today that apparently Mike Keenan is going to be announced as the new head coach for the Calgary Flames

On one hand he is the 5th winningest coach in NHL history but on the other hand what has he done in recent years? He hasn't even coached in the "New" NHL.

Honestly I am not even sure how to feel about this right now....but I am interested to see what happens with him at the helm

I don't really think this will help at all. In my opinion the Flames don't have coaching problems. They just need a few more horses. They need a centreman for Iginla. The stupids knew that last summer, but then signed Tanguay to play with him. Don't the folks in Calgary know that Tanguay is a winger? Heatley and Spezza, Lecvalier and St. Louis, Cheechoo and Thorton, Gretzky and Kurri, get the picture?

PS - Maybe we could make ya a deal for Matts Sundin. How about Sundin for Phaneuf? Sounds fair to me!

Is Darryl Sutter still the GM in Calgary? If so, this could provide some interesting drama, based on their histories when together in Chicago with the Blackhawks.

All Keenan did with the Blackhawks was take them to the Conference Finals 3 out of 4 years....I can only imagine what else he could have accomplished if Bill Wirtz and Bob Pulford had kept their egos out of it. I personally am a Keenan fan.

Yes Sutter is still GM....so I agree it will be interesting to see how these 2 work together.

I still am not sure how I feel about this. I think it can be really great or really bad (obviously) I think he brings in a lot more experience than Playfair did last year....which btw he is going to stay on as an assistant.

I think the one thing that I am most looking forward to is how Iron Mike is much more open with and in the press than Sutter or Playfair ever were/are. The sports reporters around here are going to have to adjust to someone that will actually have things to say!

All we can do is wait and see now. One thing for sure....if I wasn't excited before today about next season to start I sure am now.

Not only would I not want Sundin but there is no way in "H E double hockey sticks" Dion is leaving any time soon


Funny how fast rumors start though....I have already heard people talking that if Bertuzzi doesn't sign with Detroit that maybe Keenan would want him because of their history.

Now wouldn't that be a kick on the jewels for Flames fans! He is not liked much in these parts

Once he is on your team, everything changes......Detroit fans hated Chelios, look at them now. Hawks fans hated Theo Fleury before he came to the team, but then....oh, wait...bad example.

I grew up in Winnipeg Home of the Jets so I didn't like Fleury either.....yet so many people in this city would love to see him come back There was a lot of talk for the Flames to bring him back so he could retire here.

I got to meet him out at a tavern, and the man had some issues. That's all I got to say about that.

I think sundin has reupped for one more year in toronto.

I think keenan would be good for a disater team, which he couldn't make much worse. he could either really help or really hurt. I agree, calgary just need a bit more depth and they would be good. I like the acquisition of conroy at the trade deadline, they just need a player or two. we'll see how they do on resigning their free agents. I believe hamrlik is unrestricted this year.

it'll be interesting to see who tampa bay picks up as goalie, as there will be alot of good goalies available. I'm sure they will go after jiggy, but i don't believe he will be leaving anaheim, but they should go after anaheim's second string bryzgalov. I think he could do it for them.

I dunno if keenan is the answer, but the definatly have to sign some more depth. Ryan Smyth might be the workhorse they need, if they could fit i under the cap. PLus it would be a giant slap in the face to Edmonton fans

Yes they do need some more depth that is for sure. They need a #1 center for starters.

As for Ryan Smith yeah I think he could work here and yeah that would be awesome for the heat between us and Deadmonton

I think they need to resign Brad Stuart though but I have heard he doesn't want to stay and Roman Hamrlik in order to keep the D strong

Congratulations! He's the best thing that could happen for you guys.

He'll shake up your players, and they'll come together as a team at first just to hate him.

And then the wins will start piling up.

When he came to Chicago I opened my wallet and bought season tickets just because of him. He's a class act in my book.
He even had the balls to bench Savard when he wasn't giving it his all.

He's "good people".
