Sweet! I wish I could be there. I was at Giants Stadium when the US won the Gold Cup vs. Panama in 2005. You'll have to give us a match report once you get home. I'd love to hear what the atmosphere at Soldier Field was like.

As much as I hate to say it, I think Canada had a right to argue that last offside call. With the benefit of the replay, I think that equalizing goal should've counted, but then I'm not a ref. Where's pnoon when you need him?!

Having said that, the yellow on Donovan for diving was bogus, as was one of the offside calls on EJ, so maybe these things work themselves out in the end. ...Although I imagine there are a few Canadians who would argue the point.

Moving on, BRING ON MEXICO!!

Here I am!

I did not see the match. (It is Thursday and SHIT herfs take priority) I saw the replay just once (on ESPN) and it appeared to me to be offside. The header by the US defender was not a posession or a controlled play. In essence, a deflection. If that is assumed to be true, then offside is the correct call.

Ah, HA! pnoon, you just made my night! I hate a "controversial" US win--but, not as much as a controversial US loss.

Got there a little late but from what I heard, I didn't miss anything. I sat 100 level in the corner (decent seats, didn't want to pay the big $ for midfield). As for the us/canada game, the atmosphere was ok. Allot of people were still tailgating or something else and missed allot of the game. At first people were cheering on US but at the end of the game (at least my section) was heckling US. I think it was because people were heckling donovan, especially after he messed up an open goal, and then it spreaded over to heckling the whole team. As they say, US always plays an away game. I expected a little more from dempsey and johnson but overall the team was good... the red card is going to hurt a little

As for the mexico/guadalope game, the atmosphere was much better. Guadalope had a little section with some drums and the mexico fans are always lively. Towards the end the fans got a little frustrated with a lack of goal from mexico and they started throwing drinks/cans on the field. A cup of beer almost hit me but nailed a family right in front of me I was really hoping guadalope would score but mexico's win was expected.

Overall, it was a good night with a couple of negatives... now to get tickets for sunday. Part of me, a small part, does not want to go... I'm pretty sure it will get pretty ugly on the pitch but more so in the stadium. Having said that, I'll most likely go

Re: Soccer Fans: USA vs. CANADA tonight (6/21)

I didnt see any of the match or the highlites, but I read about it online and from what the reporters were all saying about the offside call was that the goal should have counted. 2 yrs ago we got screwed by the same ref that called last nite's game. Apparently he is one of the worst officials in this hemisphere. Oh well, it sounded like the US outplayed Canada and deserved the win anyway. Theres always 2009, when Canada hosts the gold cup.

Well, as you pointed out, the US is playing away, even when they're playing at home. My guess would be that early on you could see/hear US fans cheering on the squad, but as the game wore on, and more and more Mexico fans filled the stadium for the 2nd game, and it was probably those fans who were heckling the US. Anyone who's been following the US-Mexico rivalry over the years knows there is no love lost between these two teams. Granted, you were there, so maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part, but I've been to many, many USMNT games and I've never seen US fans turn on their own. Man. I sure hope that wasn't the case. The US team gets such little support as it is.

What a classless maneuver. Hey, look at the bright side; at least they weren't throwing batteries and bags of urine!

Oh man. I hope you decide to go. It'll be such a pro-Mexico crowd. The US deserves at least a little home support, right? I SO wish I could be there! If you think it'll be at all uncomfortable, you could always go hang out with the good people of Sam's Army. They put on one helluva tailgate (time for a pre-game cigar), and I bet they'd welcome you with open arms. I don't see tickets to the final available on their website, but here's a link by which to contact 'em... http://www.sams-army.com/index.php?Mlist=email

Yeah, I don't know. It was definitely a tough call. If I were Canadian, I'm sure I'd be outraged. But, at the end of the day, it is what the ref says it is, which reminds me of something pnoon once said to me, and I quote...

Just so you know, as a referee, I MAY make a mistake but I am NEVER wrong.

As an aside, you gotta hand it to Canada's Iain Hume. For me--an American and a staunch supporter of the US National Team--Hume was the Man Of The Match. He came on as a sub, scored Canada's goal, and then cleared a shot of the line that had their 'keeper well beat.

Re: Soccer Fans: USA vs. CANADA tonight (6/21)

FSC just had horrible coverage at the end. They never gave any replays of the 'offsides' There was not that much time left, but you could fit one in. Watching it live I did think it was offsides as the ball was played before the defender touched it. That said, this kind of stuff happens in this game. That happened in the 55th minute, it's a blurb on the write up.
I always find it funny that the goal was disallowed, even though you can hear the offside call by the announcers before the shot, and you had the US straighted up on defense. If there was no call there, who knows what happens.

As for Sunday I will be watching and rooting, I hate Mexico.
