First day of free agency - sign center Daniel Briere to an 8 year $52 million contract.

Also trade Joni Pitkanen and Geoff Sanderson and a 3rd round pick to Edmonton for defenseman Jason Smith and Joffrey Lopul. Pitkanen is going to be a star, it just wasn't going to happen in Philly for whatever reason.

Coupled with the trade to acquire Kimmo Timonen and Scott Hartnell from Nashiville, the team has taken on a new face.

This is now GM Paul Holmgren's team, and in my opinion he had made some stellar moves starting last year with the trade of Peter Forsberg.

I am really excited for hockey season to get here now!!!

Great news for flyer fans! I predicted Briere would go to Philly after his best friend Biron got traded there. I remember him being very quiet when asked about the trade. That big fat contract might have something to do with it too.

I'm excited too, right now we got an borderline playoff team. hopefully we can pick up an offensive defenseman to run the power play, and, wishful thinking, a bonafide second line scorer. a second line of jeff carter, lupul and hartnell doesn't exactly put fear into anyone's hearts. its gonna be another long year unless philly signs a couple more guys or the youngsters step it up this year, like they did in anaheim. Thier top 3 defece of timmonen, smith, hatcher, is pretty average but not much after that. but not much offense there

I think the rangers way overpaid for drury and gomez. those guys aren't worth the money they got. but that's typical for the rangers.

the islanders and sabres got stripped.

how bout the ducks adding bertuzzi to the lineup.

Of the big three FA, I like Briere the best. Along with the other pickups, I'm getting excited about hockey season already too.
