Updated report on ESPN.com

The FBI is investigating an NBA official who allegedly bet on games, including ones he refereed, in the past two seasons. The investigation reportedly has focused on whether the ref, whom multiple sources have told ESPN.com is 13-year veteran Tim Donaghy, made calls that affected point spreads.

It just keeps getting better eh? Pacman idiot, Tank dumbass, Convict Henry, Ookie, snookie, snoopy, stuupy or whatever Vick's code name is in his Posse. I just watch a few games and not pay attention to who really plays anymore. Pretty frustrating to say the least.

Re: Sad Day for the NBA

National Basketball Association (NBA) referees earn anywhere from $90,000 to $225,000 for their hard work.

I was just looking some stuff up and saw this...How greedy can you be you work at most 9 months a year making close $100k a year and him being 13 year veteran he was sprobably making upwards of $175k a year and he has to fix games for extra money? Ridiculous.

I agree with you there. But it's less likely to happen in MLB because Umps are monitered more and things are more black and white. Fair/Foul, Ball/Strike, Out/Safe. With the NBA there is arguably a foul or violation that can be called EVERY play whether it be a travel or a double dribble or a touch foul. The players are really at the referees disgretion. NBA referees really have more control over the outcome of a game then any other sport in my opinion.

it can be very subtle eg the pitch that's been called a strike all night, then in the 8th inning it's called ball 4 to load the bases
or it could be the other way where the pitch is 6 inches outside & called for strike 3 for the 3rd out & break up the rally
at the same time the tv guys are saying where was that pitch??
as it shows up on pitch tracker it was clearly opposite to what the ump called
happens all the time

same in the NBA get to the last 2 min of the game & the way fouls are called completely changes...now I know why

I know what you were saying and I completely agree. But it's much more easy to moniter in MLB and question the umps then it is the NBA where something can be called on every play.

Yes. Consistency is key but to rely on the Pitch Tracker to support or refute a ball/strike call is ludicrous. That TV gimmick is a joke.

Re: Sad Day for the NBA

If I cared about the NBA, this would affect me more. However, it is a sad commentary on todays sports and harkens back to the Black Sox. It seems as though the mafia is back! Somebody's been watching too much Sopranos.
