Bonds breaking the record...

Hey I was wondering why no one has been talking about Bonds breaking the home run record? I though maybe we could have a little celebration (or complaining) about this when it happens. The Giants are playing my Brewers this week and would actually love to see it happen at Miller Park. Any thoughts?

Re: Bonds breaking the record...

I think nobody is talking about because nobody cares. My hope is that if we just pretend it's not happening, Bonds will stop hitting HRs. I think Bonds and his disgrace to the game plus his general attitude have turned people off from caring about this milestone (which is a shame considering it is the greatest milestone in baseball)

Nope.
DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak is the greatest milestone in baseball.

No disrespect to DiMaggio, but that record can be broken in a single season; the first 57 games of a season in fact. The home run record entails being good for a long time.

As far as Bond's is concerned, remember, the guy was a Hall of Famer long before he hooked up with roids. Arrogant, certainly. Hell of a baseball player, no doubt. Is he the guy that you would want holding the record... probably not. Just remember, records were made to be broken, and Bond's HR record will be broken also.

It is far more likely that the HR record will be broken. I don't see DiMaggio's record being broken. First 57 games of the season? Yeah, right! The career HR record could, in fact, also be broken in a single season.

As far as I know, Bonds has never been a Hall of Famer and still isn't. Will he be? Most likely.

The guy couldn't be more of an arrogant boob, but I think he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame and the record should be celebrated. In America, you're innocent until PROVEN guilty.

Re: Bonds breaking the record...

He admitted to taking steroids and said it was an accident, he didn't know he was taking them
Everyone knows he took them, and clearly, if you see the games the Giants play at most away games, the fans intensely boo him and have plenty of hilarious, but angry signs that mock his attempt at the record. Since the game wouldn't exist w/out the fans, I don't get why MLB won't do a thing about it, given their knowledge. Maybe they're just sitting neutral, but because of all of this and the fact that everyone knows he's a jackass who also juiced, no one cares.
A-Rod and Pujols are both on pace to break the record, so I hope one of the truly great players overtakes him eventually.

Re: Bonds breaking the record...

The Yankees Clipper's record of 56 games of straight hitting...damn near unbreakable (if it does get broken, I hope Derek Jeter breaks it)...Cal Ripken's Ironman playing style...took his entire career...Bond's breaking Aaron's HR record, unfortunately its gonna happen...whether you want it too or not. The best part, A-Rod will most likely break Bond's Home Run Record...
