FF Draft Strageties, Favorites, Questions, et. al...
So...
(flagrant dancing chicken abuse)I know many of you are in a league together and might not want to reveal any strategies, but I luv me some good football arguments and fantasy football drafts are usually good topics...who's up for a good discussion ![]() (just to fuel the fire, Tom Brady is the best QB in the NFL this season, hands down... )NOW to the topic at hand... I just get amazed year after year when you read "mock drafts" and "top picks" sheets and they're picking 200-point-and-under RB's over 250-plus-point QB's... For example, there's a mock draft on Fox Sports right now and they've got Payton going 13th, Palmer 18th, and Brees and Brady 25th and 26th... These QB's are 300 point earners and they're going behind Edgerrn James? TO? Ronnie Brown? Willis McGahee? Once you get outside the top 8 to 10 RB's, statistically speaking the "middle pack" is a wash...it's normal for RBs to go +/- 30 points from year to year, and a WR making over 240 is a fluke...so any mid-stream RB or top WR has the same potential...and that potential is not more then a top or mid-stream QB I guess I just don't understand the RB-RB-WR or RB-RB-QB draft style when doing the math shows RB-QB-RB, or depending on your order in the draft, QB-RB-RB will get you more points over the season... I also don't understand how anyone can not finish their draft a TE...according to the numbers they're the worst earners (with the usual exception of about 2 players each year)... Am I missing something ...I look at the stats pretty analytically and try to keep emotion out of my pics, but my math just doesn't jive with the experts...Somebody please enlighten me!!! jag |

Re: FF Draft Strageties, Favorites, Questions, et. al...
Depends on the league & point structure. There are many a league that QB gets docked points for interceptions, while a comparable RB won't have that handicap. That being said, it's becomming more & more of a RB by commitee league, where after the top few are gone, it gets slim pickings.
As for the TE spot .. it depends. If the league requires a TE in your lineup (& some do) then that position gets grabbed early ... otherwise, I view 'em as a WR & draft accordingly. Last position taken ?? ..... I dunno ... depends on the lowly kickers. ![]() |

Re: FF Draft Strageties, Favorites, Questions, et. al...
Should have clarified...we play yahoo standard points...that include penalties for any type of turnover...
and kickers...over the last two years, the average points earned by the top 25 kickers is 122...the average by top 25 TE's...83 points... regardless of the scoring method, you're kicker is 150% more valueable then your TE... looking at the numbers, taking a kicker (or a defense for that matter) earlier then a TE will get you more points over the season... granted, there are anomolies to every position... maybe i'm being waaaay too analytical with numbers on this and blind to something in the selection process? ![]() jag i dunno...i love FF though! |
