Vista sucks, I am upgrading to XP

I love technology. I create applications and web sites for a living. Right now I am in a Microsoft centric world. I do have a MacBook Pro and love it and have always enjoyed the Mac platform. I am apart of the Microsoft developer group and that gets me their applications and tools that I need to do my work. I was never really interested in Vista, but I decided that when I was building my new development computer, I would give it a try. Well after 4 months of use, it sucks. Internet Explorer stops working, or it takes 15 to 30 seconds after the page comes up before you can use it. Windows explorer decides to stop working at times, basic OS items just crash. It feels even feels slow. So right now my development machine is going back to XP so I can get some real work done. Vista is not ready for full time use. If you push it too hard it just gives up. I was told I was almost out of memory even though i had a GIG free. If you have to have a windows box, stay with XP, otherwise look at getting a Mac.

I had the same prob, it was a big resource hog and it had bad driver issues, and navigating through it was a pain in the fanny.

Why they move everything you need to access every time they change the operating system is beyond me!

I have to keep XP due to some specialized hardware I own which (groan!) does not have Vista drivers available. It sounds like I may be just as well off that they don't.

I seem to remember that XP had a lot of problems initially as well, and things settled down quite a bit after service pack 2 (SP2). Perhaps it will be better when VISTA does the same thing.

You know Vista is a BIG change from XP in my opinion. It's just really different feel and I think a lot of the casual users will have a problem. I am not sure how they can fix the resourse hog issues...

Bill Gates just called. He just wanted to remind you he can afford to put a hit on everyone who talks smack about Vista.

I do actually like the look and navigation of Vista... but yes it is a MEMORY HOG!!! I finally disabled the Desktop Windows Manager service and the SearchIndexing service and it run MUCH better.... just a couple of options to give it a shot... but yes, over all I would like to be back with XP!!!

I know they are trying to make it easier, but sometimes they screw everything up in the process. I can not wait for 2 service pack cycles before things work. I know there are pains with a new OS, but really, not this many. It the OS sucks up resources that bad, do not release it. Without a stable OS, how can you run any application? If the OS takes up HALF of the memory you can install, that is bad. No OS should take up that much. Turn off the extra crap.

I am glad to be on XP, now I can see the performance that my new box really has. I did like some of the changes, but not enough to put up with the other issues. They are trying to copy OS X, but did not do a good enough job.

John, stay on XP!

Agreed. I have yet to find ANYTHING that Vista does better than XP - and with the hardware needed to marginally run Vista, XP would FLY. Sadly, most store-bought Vista PCs can't be downgraded because the hardware manufacturers had to create new stuff JUST for Vista, and don't have XP drivers available.

Tho I DID speak to one tech who bitched to HP because he had ordered a number of XP boxes & received half of them with Vista installed - instead of having him send the PCs back (and eating all of those lovely shipping costs), they just shipped him out a downgrade CD. He told me it overwrote just the relevant parts of the OS, but all of the hardware still worked great. Need to get my hands on one of those CDs...
