Any Techies out there?
Maybe this isn't a tech question, but here goes.
What's a good way to transfer large files online? Please don't suggest ftp, I've screwed that up as many times as I've tried it. I've tried an online storage site (MediaMax.com) but they limit downloads to 10MB per file. I have about 300 MB I want to transfer. Any suggestions. Oh yea, I'm cheap. |

I know a lot of people use free Gmail email accounts as virtual online hard drives. Some people have even written software to make the email account more like an actual harddrive: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GMail_Drive

What about using something like Bittorrent?

I've tried MediaMax, but the free version limits downloads to files 10 MB or less.
As for Bittorrent, that sounds like more than I can handle. I'd like to just be able to send it directly or upload it somewhere when the other party can just download it. MediaMax would be perfect if it didn't have the limit. |

Leapfile may be an option, but it will cost money and you have to set up your own site with their service. Check them out online:
leapfile.com Other than that, you options are FTP/sFTP, SSH, bittorrent, setting up a VPN that the person can log on to and share certain files or punt... If you have never used hamachi, then this may be an answer. Hamachi is a vpn client/server platform for free usage. You set up the client software, create a network and then allow other computers to share that network. Whatever shares you create on your machine are open to others just like they are on your LAN at home/office. Hence, the term, virtual private network (VPN). Anyway, the addressing scheme is in the 5. range (Ex. 5.26.98.77) which allows you to connect and have your network invisible to normal ip routing and attacks - if you do not have hamachi and are not approved for the network, you cannot get on - no outside hacking! So, this may be an option. The other party would have to install and use hamachi and you would have to give them your network info to log into your hamachi network, but you could share exactly what you want in say one shared folder on your machine and then the other party can browse your machine and your sole shared folder and shared file... That could be an option. It's free too! (though they do have a pay for option as well - not needed in your case) Hamachi CD

Are you trying to transfer to another PC? If so is it on LAN or WAN? To a server? To a file storage site?
