I agree, Pandora rocks, but can you burn the music you save for free in the "Stations" you create? If so, I haven't figured out how to do that. :imconfused:

I use Limewire, too.

haven't used its feature, but apparently imeem.com allows you to dl songs from others' playlists, if you like them. don't know the specifics, but the playlists are vast and varied. good listening for in the office, if nothing else.

Not to be the stick in the mudd because believe me I love music and have played the guitar for 20 some years and I also think music should be free too but caution should be used when downloading music. In that I mean scan it with and updated virus protection before opening it.

Mp3 My Mp3

Has anyone tried Mp3 My MP3? Stupid name I know, but its' a slick little piece of software, and its' FREE!!! It can record any audio at all that comes through your sound card. Following is a description of the program from the product website, and I've attached a couple screenshots. The first shot is the product at "rest." The second shot show the product as its' recording something. What this slick product gives you is the ability to record streaming audio off the web. So you can go to the sites you guys have been talking about, where you can listen to music online, and record the music as its' playing then save it to MP3 or WAV!

I use this product all the time with Spiral Frog. Spiral Frog (http://www.spiralfrog.com) is an absolutely free legal music download site. They have mostly older music on the site (not REALLY REALLY old, but stuff a few years old, plus some newer stuff). The tunes from the site are downloaded in DRM protected WMA format. Spiral Frog allows you to transfer the music you download to your portable devices. The problem in my case is that iPod does not support the playing of WMA files. This would affect Zune users also. So what I do is DL music from Spiral Frog, and then I play the tunes using Winamp, and as they are playing record them with the MP3 My MP3 program and then save the recording I made in MP3 format, which can then by put on my iPod.

Here's the description from the product website:

MP3myMP3 Recorder 2.0- FREE
Record internet radio and save to mp3 or wav. Record streaming audio from the Internet, microphone, or any other source for that matter. MP3myMP3 Recorder works directly with your system sound card - if you can hear it, you can record it! Use the scan tool to list all mp3, wav, aif, swa, or sun au audio files on your computer - then play and record portions of any of these files. MP3myMP3 Recorder offers customizable colors, timer, on top mode, and skinning.

This program is meant to be extremely intuitive to use, with enough features to get the job done quickly and easily...

1. Select the audio source you wish to record from.(Choose Stereo Mix or Wave mix or similar this will record all audio through your sound card.)

2. Open your favorite audio player. ie (WinAmp) and start playing something.

3. The combination of the settings below ultimately determines the overall recording input level. Fine tune your recording levels so that the meter on the right just hits the bottom of the red zone at the loudest point of the audio you are recording.
a)Player audio level
b)Master Volume Level
c)Recording Level

4. Click the Record button.

5. Click Stop when you're ready to end the recording.

6. Click the Play button to listen to your recording.

7. Check your Mp3 Export settings.

8. Save your recording to a Wave file or an Mp3 file or both.

The only problem I have with the "free sites" is that you will get tons of ad clicks on your computer after downloading the site. This is where your computers get spyware from and then after awhile you will notice your ad pops. It's not worth it in the long run and I just use I TUnes to manage my files and downloads. It's bad enough doing searches on the Internet and getting junk from the sites downloaded to your hard drive but to bring them in by using "free" sites is not worth the risk in my opinion. Unless you have a great spyware program running in the background you are going to get a lot of ad pops.

That's waht I like about Spiral Frog. Its' an ad-supported website, but there are no pop ups, pop unders, or spyware. All the ads are banner ads and ads right on the site.

Checjk them out. It hink you'll be very surprised. Near the top of the site there is a link for recommended portable devices. There are 41 portable devices (music players, palm computers and mobile phones) that are completyly compatible with Spiral Frog's music downloads, including devices from Archos, Creative Labs, iRiver, Motorola, Nokia, Palm, Rio, Samsung, SanDisk, Siren, Sony, and Toshiba.

Hmmm,,,,so you are saying that your computer doesn't get hit with trojans, variants, etc from this site? Have you done a check of your drives to see for sure? I am very interested in knowing this before DL from Spiral Frog. Thx!

I've been using Torrents for a while now. Utorrent is what I use to download and btjunkie is the site i download from. Just be careful. Uncle Sam frowns upon this sort of nonsense.

Azerus and Demonoid.com for torrents. That's what I've heard at least. I would never partake in such things.............;-)

Talking

You can use Audacity to record any audio that your sound card plays and its opensource, highly respected/recommended and the best thing is it's FREE. I have heard that utorrent is a good one but I would never use such a thing especially at free open wi-fi spot that is basically untraceable

I use utorrent. and the torrent site I use is piratebay.org. I would avoid Limewire like the plague. Way too many viruses. My ex-wife's laptop had to be sent out to be formated twice because of viruses on limewire. utorrent is very simple and you can download single songs if you want. You just have to select the songs that you want when you load the torrent.

I only use torrents! they're the best way to download music IMO Limewire is terrible for your computer. It makes it run slow and usually infects it with viruses. I would steer clear of that.
