Website photo album software?
Does anybody know of a good one? While I don't mind the one on my site, my visitors don't seem too fond of it. Ideally, what I need is something that is easy for visitors to use for uploading pictures to the site. I have my own website/server so I'm not looking for something like flicker.
I'm not looking for anything too flashy, just a good way to display several thousand pictures.

are you looking for something they can use to upload directly to your site? Also, is it viewing, ordering, or other?

Upload to the site, yes. Just viewing and printing. I'm not planning on any ordering setup right now...although that might be an interesting route in the future. It's just family photos, so nothing I'm trying to make a business off of, but I know some people do like to use the site to get pictures that they then print at home.

If you are ok with using another site and just linking it to yours, check out SmugMug. I have the pro account with them and love it. I customized everything to make it actually look like part of my main site. I believe you can setup a shared gallery and that allows people to upload. Here is a link www.smugmug.com
Other than that, i do not know of any other ways to allow people to upload their own photos. Photoshop and lightroom have some cool web gallery options, but you will have to make them and then upload to your site. You may want to check out http://jalbum.net/ I haven't use their software in some time, but they may have something along the lines of what you want. Hope that helps. |

Thanks!
smugmug isn't quite what I had in mind. I'd rather keep it on my server, so it's easier to backup. I did play with Jalbums a bit a few years back. It wasn't bad for shoving up a few galleries here and there, but then it didn't seem to hold up when I was trying to put up 5-2 galleries per year, archiving back till 2000. I might have to crack down and hire someone to make the page for me. I've tried to hire web guys before, but I can never find anybody that isn't geared towards commercial sites (and wanting to charge $500 PER PAGE). You'd think the internet would be easier ) =

Re: Website photo album software?
Best thing would be a custom coded one.
I know coppermine is popular though. Check out on hotscripts.com under the PHP section. I'm sure you will find something. |
