USB question
I have 6 USB ports on my computer, 4 on the back and two up front. My system information page indicates that two of the USB ports are USB 2.0 and the other four are the old 1.1 version. None of the ports are visibly marked with either a 2.0 or a 1.1 designation.
My question: how can I determine which two ports are 2.0? Thanks

Re: USB question
One thing you can do and it's a pretty round about process, but go to the device manager (ctrl panel>admin tools>device manager). Go to universal serial bus controllers, and then just try going down the list disabling one and seeing which one it is until you get them narrowed down.
If I had to guess though and based on what I've dealt with in the past, the two up front will be 2.0 because typically the back hubs are used for things like printers/mouse etc so there's no need for 2.0 back there. Up front sees alot of mp3/ipod, webcam, and things like that which would be transferring alot of data at a hopefully quick rate and would be benefited by the 2.0 technology.

Re: USB question
I bought and installed a 4 port 2.0 USB port in my computer and whenever I plug my ipod into it, I get a pop-up balloon message that reads "this devise will run faster in a high speed port" or something similar. I installed the driver and reinstalled it, but for some reason the computer won't recognize the 2.0.
Any thoughts? Thanks |

Could it be the Ipod driver? I would have thought it was the card driver myself. |

Re: USB question
It's pretty unlikely but it could be the cord. some low quality 1.1 cords can't do 2.0 while some higher quality ones can. all 2.0 cords however can handle 1.1. unfortunately though i think that message, "could run faster if not at 1.1" or whatever only comes up when detecting the true speed of the usb card itself and not of whatever hub somehone happened to plug in or the speed of a cord.
