Question Photoshop CS4 System Requirements

Hey hey I have a question for those of you who are more tech savvy than I... I just purchased adobe photoshop CS4 for Windows. I run Windows XP and I know it is compatible but I have an Intell T2300 processor running at 1.66 ghz and 1 GB of RAM. I'm using a Dell laptop so upgrades are pretty much out of the question.

The back of the CS4 box says I need a 1.8ghz or faster processor... I assume that .14 ghz isnt a huge difference but before I open up the package and cant return it I want to be sure I am not screwing up...

Can I run CS4 just fine on my system?

Thanks for the info. Sorry if this is a dumb question

It is a dual core processor if that makes a difference...

I think the thing that's going to get you is your RAM...while you can probably run the program, it will be chunky..Photoshop files tend to me memory hogs. If you are able to add RAM, I'd double or go to 4MB if possible. That will make up for some of the lack of processor power.

Gotcha. I do shoot RAW also so I guess that is not going to help due to the large file sizes.

Any idea if I can upgrade the RAM on a dell notebook?

This would be a good time to purchase CS3 as folks are migrating over to CS4. I would just make sure that you have a valid serial number. Also, I think that you cannot load Photoshop seperate from the Suite, if it was purchased as a Suite..just saying that in case some unscrupulous types try to break the suite apart and sell the pieces.

HEY..I just went over post 100....

You should be able to upgrade the RAM on that no problem. I've owned a couple Inspirons and loved them. I have a Latitude now and wish I had my old Inspiron back!

Looks like you can get 2GB (2x1GB chips) for $34.99. Check out this link --> Dell - Search - All Dell.com

Usually there is a small plate on the bottom and the mem chips are right under that. Some models (not sure if Dell does this) have them under the keyboard and it's a little more work but still easily doable.

Good luck!

Re: Photoshop CS4 System Requirements

Thanks guys! I got the 2GB chips in today and I am about to insall them after I update the BIOS...
I have another luddite question...
In the Dell support module it says my system can handle 4GB of RAM. It says memory slots 3 nd 4 are empty, however a tech guy told me my laptop only has 2 memory slots... Is it 2slots or 4?

The largest chip I saw from Dell are the two 1GB chips that make the total 2GB as itsme_timd pointed out.

Could I go with another brand's two 2GB chips to run 4GB or would that be risky?

Matt

Here's what I found:"Memory Upgrade for Dell Inspiron E1405 Laptop, the Dell Inspiron E1405 Laptop takes the PC2-4200/5300 DDR2 SDRAM SODIMMs. Supports Dual Channel DDR2. Memory Type, and comes installed with 512 MB (removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your Dell Inspiron E1405 Laptop to up to a maximum of 2.0 GB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with 512 MB (removable) standard Memory installed. "
Looks like 2MB is max memory for your machine!

Re: Photoshop CS4 System Requirements

Never actually knew anyone who purchased Adobe Photoshop haha. Most people download the trial on their site (which is full version, stops working after 15 days), and then download a key generator so it doesn't stop working.

How much does it cost? hundreds isn't it?
