How do you get your pics?

I see all these pics on here and was wondering what kind of camera do you use, digital, cell phone, other? I'm still struggling with a Canon AE 1 I got in 1980 and am thinking of stepping up to 21st century technology.

Re: How do you get your pics?

I shoot with a Nikon Coolpix 7900. It is about 5 years old but still works great. Small size, great clarity, and resolution. I think it is a 7 megapixel. I upload most of my images for Puff at Imageshack.

Re: How do you get your pics?

I use a Nikon also. A Coolpix L20. 10megapixel and $99 with a whole list of functions. After 10 megapixel they say the naked eye can not distinguish any more clearer. I wouldn't pay anymore than $200 or go higher than 10mp for any camera unless I was gonn make money using it. I have had three Nikons and the only reason I got new ones was 2broke (my fault) and one had a recall and Nikon sent me the newest CoolPix instead of waiting to have my old one repaired.

Two out of two for Nikon Coolpix so I just ordered an L20. Now all I have to do is figure out how it works.

Re: How do you get your pics?

There is an "Easy Auto Mode" where its basically hold the shutter button down half way, the camera self adjusts and when the cross hairs go green, press the button completely down. Fairly easy once u get used to it.
There are numerous self picked modes (sports, portrait, copy, musuem etc...) and there is a basic photo mode I usually use. Most all of the modes you can turn the flash on, off, auto, or red-eye. There is even a movie mode where u can shoot movies and it comes with the RCA cord to watch on your TV. Its a great camera for the money IMO.
The next step up uses a expensive battery that isn't worth it. The camera is slimmer than the Coolpix but about $200+. I have about 6 sets of AAs and a charger. You can get those for about $20 (charger and a few batteries.) Kinda funny but KODAK rechargables I have found to be the best lasting ones so far, they have gone through all three cameras.

Re: How do you get your pics?

I have a canon digital rebel slr and absolutely love it. Yes depending on what you want to do you have to invest in more lens but I can also take a picture and print a 21x16 poster that is photo quality and I dont have to worry about my resolution. I bought it a little over 5 years ago when my son was born and I have taken over 7000 pictures with it.

The initial investment is a little steep but I will buy another when this one dies or I break it. This time though I will save a little extra and get one with a higher frame rate. I cannot say enough about how well it has served me to this point.

Thanks, that's pretty much like what I had in mind. Now if I could just find the button that puts the camera in "complete idiot mode" I can start taking pics.

Re: How do you get your pics?

I learned not to be affraid to mess up a picture. You don't have to pay to develop them to see how bad u screwed up! If it don't turn out, you can always delete and learn from your mistakes;

Re: How do you get your pics?

When using a point and shot for cigar pics, set it to macro (for very clear close up pictures) and try and use the best light you can with no flash. Sunlight is of course awesome for this.

Great point! On the Nikon the Macro is the little "flower" looking icon on the bottom of the 4way switch. Then zoom in just a tad and the zoom bar goes green to let you know your in the zoom range for macro. Then half hold the shutter button, if the crosshairs go green, push the button completely. Wa-LA!!
I shoot 75% of my cigar pics on Macro. It realy brings out the details.

I WAS using an Sony Alpha a200 dSLR, but I lost the cord for the battery charger. Now I just use my cell phone, but the image quality is killing me.
