Need Help!

A kid in my class spilled coffee on my macbook (titanium version) this morning. It wasn't much coffee but some got on the tack pad. I quickly wiped up the spill, but now the mouse is sticking. It i hold down on the mouse to highlight something it won't let me de-select it. The coffee was black- no sugar or milk. I am thinking of going to the book store to get a can of air in hopes that i can dry up any liquid under the mouse pad. Is this a good idea? Any other solutions?

Re: Need Help!

That's a tough call. If you use ANY liquid at all (like water on a toothpick) make sure your computer is off and keep it off for a few ours after cleaning it. Making sure the water is dried out and does not short out any circuits.

I would google it though. I'm sure someone has a clever way to clean it.

Cheers,
Brad

Don't have any advice for you, but I hope you're able to fix it!

Unfortunately, Applecare does not cover liquid damages.

Re: Need Help!

Glad you got it fixed. usually with electronics, if there is a spill of some sort of liquid, you can usually turn off the devise and either dry it out completely and turn it back on. Might take a very long time to dry but it usually works.

Re: Need Help!

Most people don't realize that electronics run on smoke. When you let the smoke out of the circuit, it stops working.

We had an office temp who spilled a Latte on a 4 day old laptop we just bought for her. I disassembled it, and used a spray bottle filled with distilled water to wash off each component. Then I blew each piece dry with an air compressor.

Reassembled it, and she fired right up. Still in service, over a year later.

Had a system administrator who would throw old keyboards in the dishwasher before re-issuing them to new employees. You see, some people work at their desk during lunch everyday, and use their keyboard for a napkin! He just let them dry out completely before using them.

Re: Need Help!

Try rubbing alcohol, referably 92%. It won't short circuit anything. I've used it to clean out my wireless apple keyboard after spilling milk from a cereal bowl on it. Make sure the Macbook is off and the battery is out (unless you have the built in battery). Good luck Jim!
