    Computer/Receiver hook up

I have a new computer and a HD LCD monitor. The sound from the monitor sucks and also the plugin for headphones. I had downsized/ upgraded my Home Theater. So I have an older Yamaha HTR 5250 receiver that I want to hook up to my computer to listen to music while surfing. Looking at the back Im set up for Surround sound HD. how could I hook up My receiver??

Do me a favor, can you take a picture of the back of both the receiver and your computer?? I may be able to shed some light on it for you :-)

    Cheers!

Rob, check what kind of audio outputs are your computer. Best option would probably be optical, then left/right stereo then your headset. I believe your receiver has optical(input) so that you may be able to accurately provide 5.1 surround sound. If not, then stereo mode might able to "reproduce" surround sound.

That receiver has optical and digital coaxial if my research serves me right, I know that my HP desktop has the digital coaxial out which is a great option if yours doesn't have the optical.

    Re: Computer/Receiver hook up

Thank you both, what Im getting is if I get a sound card with either an Optical out or the coax out It will work. But at the same time I may not have true 5.1 unless the new card does.

So after doing some research I believe that all you will need is a Digital Coaxial cable aka an "SPFID" cable, it pretty much looks like a piece of Coax but with a orange ringed RCA termination.

I would post the link, but Im to new, just go to best buy.com and look up "digital coax" and you should be set!

    That should be it!

    Good luck!
