Don Pepin makes very few personal appearances throughout the year. We are very
honored that he will be joining us on Saturday June 2nd at 5:30PM in the store.
Pepin in bringing one of his top rollers and will do a little demonstration himself
during this week, we will be offering a terrific deal on box purchases of the Don
Pepin labeled cigars.

Well it got Serious at this Don Pepin Garcia event at Serious Cigars in Houston, Texas. I arrived at 5:30 to an already lively crowd that enjoying carribean food and mojitos as far as the eye can see. An open bar made for open pockets as the boxes of Don Pepin Garcia cigars were steadily being purchased.

I ended up buying a box of the Pepin Black edition 1979 Robusto early on so that I could get the master himself to sign it for me. He asked in his improving english "What is your name." I said "me llamo Daniel" With a lively smile and wonderfull charm Don Pepin was happy to sign my box " Para Daniel de:Jose Pepin Garcia".

One really cool thing about buying a box was that you got entered into a drawing for a cigar pipe and cigar bat, both of which Pepin rolled himself. You also recieved a six Pepin cigar sampler with every purchase. To top that off you would also recieve a fresh hand rolled cigar too that was being rolled there. I took video of the cigar pipe rolling by Pepin!




So with a full belly and drinks flowing I proceeded to kick back with one of our CigarLive members Sysrock and it was conversation of the important things in life such as cigars, food, real estate, cigars, and inside jokes from cigarlive.

I got to spend some time talking with Ron the owner of Serious Cigars and he is a super down to earth guy that loves Pepin Black. He said that the event was a long time in the works and that it was very special to him. Ron himself spoke spanish very well and it was easy for him to communicate with Pepin.

I myself had only been to Serious Cigars one time before and I did not realize the size of the place. They have an outside covered patio for customers to sit. The inside of the shop has a humidor that circles the center lounge area. When you walk into the humidor you can instantly tell the the humiduty is perfectly crisp and the temperature it totally dead on. I really like the way it is set up and you will find your self walking the full length before you make your selection. It seems like the cigars just get better and better each few steps further. I noticed customers spending long periods of time really trying to decide what to buy.

So now is the time to make my second purchase. I decide that I will go with my usual Padron 1964 which is a true favorite of mine always. I make the selection and head to the check out. I notice on check out that the system they use automatically updates thier inventory so that the web purchases and store purchases are tracked live. So when the system says they have it in stock it is dead on. So I clip and light and start herfing with sysrock. We head over to the lounge area and talk about the oil industry and vacation hot spots. Other herfers are conversing about sports and poker so we are in man heaven.

At this point the crowd is huge and Pepin starts to roll again. Like a PGA tournament the crowd goes silent as everyone watches him roll. It is simply amazing to see him roll, as he did so he also talked to the other roller and made comments about what he was doing.

I spent some time talking with Ron and he gave me a bit of advice on what he likes on a good cigar board. I invited him to join and thanked him for having us.

All in all this was a show and a great way to spend a Saturday night.

I apologize for not having more time to sit, chat and smoke. I had my father-in-law and brother-in-law along with me and as much as my father-in-law enjoys a good smoke and company, his M.S. makes it a bit tough to hang out somewhere for too long when he can't get comfortable. It was definitely my pleasure to meet you and I hope we can get together down that way again when I can spend a little more time and have a cigar.

On a side note, Brian must not be a fairly common name in Cuba. When Don Pepin asked me my name, he had me repeat it twice more and then signed the box (of Series JJ Selectos):

Puff & Stuff on Lawrenceville Hwy. - Decatur. I don't think they have the date worked out yet, but it will be after the Fourth.
