Anyone looking for a great family dog?
Yesterday we woke up to find our older cocker named Cookie was paralyzed in her back legs. I always said that spending huge amounts of $ on a pet was ridiculous, but nonetheless we found ourselves rushing her to A&M in college station to be taken care of by the best vets around. She has a degenerative disc disease which is not uncommon in many dogs. She had to have surgery on her spine, and is doing well.
The onset was very quick and unfortunately was very possibly exasperated by the happy jumping of our other younger cocker named "Sugar". Needless to say, once Cookie comes back from the hospital in a few weeks we can not take the chance of her being jumped on in any way including good natured bouncing. Due to these changes I am in need of finding a home for one absolutely precious brown and white (sable) 3 yo cocker spaniel. She is not pure bred so she does not have the joint issues and is about 20" instead of breed standard 18". She is also VERY active and loves to bounce. She is smarter than normal cockers and therefore willful at times but not difficult to train. She was rescued from a puppy mill situation and so can be scared of her water dish and loud noises at time. She does NOT do the cocker piddle thing either. She is great with cats and other dogs and kids. Very small kids might find her a bit too energetic. She is just right as a loving lap dog (responds easily to "Down" commands as well) and has some of the softest fur I have felt in a cocker. She also does NOT shed. She will scratch at the door to go out (like all cockers a home change will require relearning) and sleeps nightly in a kennel. Her faults are that she needs a fenced yard and is not leash trained (does not dig). She likes to bark but will stop on command unless the person/dog/thing is right there on the other side of the fence (lol). If she gets off her leash it becomes a game no matter if there are cars or not. She does not chew shoes and such, but has been known to chew on various small objects left down on her level. Think of a cocker like a two year old, they want to put anything small in their mouths. She does NOT fetch, which is odd, but she will play as long as you have the energy for it. If you know of ANYONE willing to love this sweet dog (they look like puppies forever) please let me know. I want her to go to a home where she will get the attention and love she needs. I have attached a few pics and they are about 2 years old but she looks exactly the same.

Thanks Rah...
It's been a rough year so far, we are just looking forward to things slacking up some... The folks here have been awesome... Back to better things...Sugar really is a great dog, if we thought we had any choice otherwise...she would stay right where she is.. But as much as these dogs are our babies, she isn't going to understand she has to be gentle around Cookie and I can't go through this again...watching her drag around her back end brought me to my knees... Still amazes me how attached we get to these animals...

Wish I could help you out Jeff. CAPS is a great place in Houston that will make sure she gets a good home. They also use foster homes so she won;t be living in a shelter. Good luck with everything.
