Re: My Father and The Call Last Night

I wanted to give everyone an update on my Dad. He seems to be doing a little better, occasionally smiles and mouths words appropriately, but still can't talk. Hospice is with him, now, 24/7 and trying to keep him comfortable with Morphine. He seems to have a lot of back pain when they turn him in his bed. I'm supposed to work 12 hours each day this weekend, but am debating whether to fly up to Texas now or wait til Monday. I don't know how much longer He'll hang in there. Any advice? My Boss at work has cleared the way for me to take as much time as I need to be with my Dad. Thanks, again, for all your prayers and support! It means a lot to me!

Don't do what I did. I was where you are now. Here I am 14 years later, and I still blame myself for not being there for my Dad. Book the flight and get there for him.

God bless your journey to be with your Dad, Greg.

May your time with your Dad be especially meaningful. Your presence will be a comfort to him. I am praying for God's comfort to also rest upon him and may the Lord grant all of you his wonderful abiding peace and strengthening grace. Take care, bro.

Re: My Father and The Call Last Night

I wanted to give everyone an update. My dad passed away this morning. I was at the New Orleans airport when my brother called me with the news. At first I was upset that I didn't get to see my dad before he died, but maybe it was better this way. My sister told me that the kind nurse that cared for my dad last night was giving him a backrub after his vital signs started dropping, and he relaxed completely and stopped breathing. During his college years, my dad had worked as an orderly and loved to give his patients back-rubs. How fitting that he breathed his last after receiving a calming back-rub himself! At that moment, I know that The Lord took him in His strong, loving Arms into His Heavenly Kingdom. I remember my last conversation with my dad. I called him nearly every Sunday at 7:00 P.M. Last Sunday, when I talked to him, he said, "Well, what's up?" I told him that I had just gotten back from a trip to the Masters in Augusta. We played golf together every Saturday growing up and had many wonderful times together on the golf course. Last Sunday, my dad didn't say anything after that. He started slipping into a coma that night, and gradually deteriorated throughout last week. My brother and 3 sisters told him how much we all loved him, and that I was on the way. He had increasing pain in his back over the last several years and I know he was ready to be with The Lord. Now my dad is at peace, without pain, and forever with his Savior! I wanted to thank all of you for your prayers, support, and advice. It means so much to me to know you are there for me. Please remember to spend time with your friends and family, and always tell them how much you love them. Our time on this earth is very short, and we must enjoy it to the fullest. Thanks again to all of you.
Take care,

Greg
