Prayer request for my dad

My dad was taken from the nursing home to the hospital this afternoon to get a couple of units of blood for a low hemoglobin count. He seemed to be a little confused and it is hard to understand him as his words aren’t coming out very well at this point. He's battled cancer for the past 6 years and has lost over 60 lbs in a 5 week span from Thanksgiving to Christmas and over 100 lbs in a 6 month span.

Blood tests were pretty good for everything, but the doctor called with the results of the scan this evening. He had surgery in early November that removed a blockage in his intestine, 80% of his tumor(20 lbs worth) along with something like a gallon and a half of fluid that had built up in his belly. His belly has grown back to nearly the same size in the past 2 months because he has another blockage and his body isn’t really getting rid of anything it’s taking in. He’s also developed an infection in his belly and a tube was put down his nose to help get rid of some of the gases that has built up in his system.

The doctor was pretty blunt that surgery is needed, but also warned that he may very well not be strong enough to survive the surgery to begin with. He certainly didn’t want a surgeon operating on him that isn’t familiar with his situation, so that would leave it to one of the two surgeons that operated on him previously if he is to go through with it. My brother, grandma, and aunt are all of the opinion that we don’t want him to suffer any longer, but up to this point, he made the decision to go to the hospital for the blood transfusion. Once he’s no longer capable of making the decisions on his own, we’ve pretty much agreed not to prolong his suffering any longer with additional transfusions.

We ask that you pray for God to provide him comfort during this time and for the rest of us as we face what will unfold over the next few days or weeks.

Prayers are always in order for the sick/injured. But, we should never forget the caregivers/families. Times are hard. Stay strong. May God give healing where healing is the answer, and strength to all.
