Worst day of my life.... so far.

Today started like any other day. Layed around the house with the dogs. My wife brought home another rescue a week ago...a little male chew-wowa! I think he had been beat cause he doesnt like men at all. He finally warmed up to me today. I got called into work at noon cause the chiller shut down. I was there till 12:45pm. I got home and parked the bike in the garage and came into the house and was greeted by Zoe our dalmation/terrier mix. This is normal except for the fact she was no longer white..........she was RED!! Covered in blood from head to toe! I freaked out and checked her from top to bottom and no cuts, bites, punctures nothin. My attentioned turned to the new dog........not a drop of blood on him. I started to really hyperventilate..........Missy........our rat terrier we have had for like 10 years. As I started to look for her I found what looked like a scene from a horror movie. The walls were splattered with blood from the floor to 3 feet high. The floor in the hallway was sopping with blood. I followed the trail to the treadmill where I found the poor little girl laying there. I touched her and she was cold but she was still breathing. I called the vet and rushed her down there. By this time im hysterical and covered in her blood. Her neck was completely ripped open on the left side and she had punctures on the right. Her front bottom teeth got nocked out. Her belly had several punctures. Xrays showed that her abdomen had not been punctured and her lungs and neck were intact. Didnt even sever an artery. She may have some nerve damage but we wont be sure for awhile. I had to sit and help the doc clean the wounds and hold the oxygen mask on her. Doc said her temp was good, blood test were good and her color came back after we got an IV started. My wife and friends were on their way back from the Husker game yesterday so she didnt get there till we were ready to lay her down for the night. Doc wanted her to stabilize before they do surgery. So hopefully tomorrow mornin they can sew her up. I dont know why Zoe woulda done this. They have been together for 6 years now and never showed any aggression. The only thing I can think of is the chewowa wanted to play and missy snapped at him and Zoe protected him. So me and the wife sat there for a good 45 minutes just holding her and bawling our heads off. The doc layed her in a kennel and I came home.......dropped my wife off at a friends house so she wouldnt have to see the bloody mess. I cleaned the walls for a good hour and had to rent a rug doctor to get the blood out of the carpet. Its was 8:30pm before I realized i hadnt ate all day. But first I had to give the murderer a bath to see if i could make her white again. Its funny but her eyes look weird now. Like they are all cold. She knows she did a bad thing. She has just been laying around. Ya know ive killed and skinned hundreds of animals in my 35 years but when you see the inside of your beloved pet.........it messes you up. Im ex military and have seen things that didnt bother me nearly as much as this is. Its crazy how we get attatched to our pets. Hell Missy isnt a pet.......shes my kid. We love her to death. She eats off my fork, she sleeps with us, she is under our feet 24/7 and sometimes she talks to us. The vet just called and said she was sitting up when she got there to check on her at 10pm. Hopefully this is a good sign. Now we have to figure out what to do with Zoe who we have had for 6 years. Do we keep loving her and hope it was a one time thing? Or find a home for her. Either way it is gonna be hard. If you would take a second and wish her luck. I think I have some pics of her on my profile....shes the little black dog. The sweetest little thing ever and she didnt deserve this.

Oh lord. I'm so sorry that you and your poor Missy are going through this. I can't imagine the predicament, but I most assuredly know what it's like to have that relationship with your 'children'. If you believe in God, just pray and he/she'll provide you with the answers and the strength to get through this. My prayers are with you and your family tonight.

Koby,,,,man, I am so sorry about this. My wife and I take in rescue dogs and have 2 of them and it's a process to bring them in because as you said,,,,you don't know the complete history about them and where they came from or what they dealt with. We were advised to bring the second one in gradually and let them meet in a neutral place and get used to each other away from the home. After a few walks and time together then we brought them into the home but kept the newer one "quarantined" away until the older was used to him and we would always keep an eye on them. Bringing new dogs into the home environment is sometimes iffy and dogs tend to be territorial and behave differently.

God, I feel so bad for you guys that you had to go through this. My wife and I love our "boys" like they were our own kids and to go through what you did is horrible. I am so glad that you were able to get to the Vet and get things taken care of. I hope you all get through this and get your lives back on track,,,thoughts and prayers go out to your family and pets.

Wow, I can't even imagine what you're going through right now. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. Even just reading your story had a numbing effect on me, as the owner of two dogs.

I'm sorry to hear about this Koby. It's amazing that she is alive. I hope something positive can come of all this. I hope she makes a full recovery. I wish I had some insight in to that kind of behavior. Why would that happen? Would it happen again? Take care.
