Salt Lake City
I'll be in Salt Lake City 3/18-3/22 and I'm trying to get some recommendations on a good shop to go check out, and see if maybe someone would want to have a herf. Let me know if anyone has any good recommendations or wants to meet on one of those nights.

Re: Salt Lake City
Ill be down there the same time I'm not sure if there's a cigar bar or not I know there is a few places to buy cigars not sure if you can smoke in them. Slowpokebill is from there maybe he can help us and we can get together for a smoke.

Re: Salt Lake City
Yeah that would be great. I don't know how the laws are down there for smoking.

Re: Salt Lake City
I'm from the SLC, and the shops are nothing to brag about. Most of the good ones aren't even in the city, the only one I could recommend (but not one I frequent) is Jeannie's Smoke Shop, it's in the downtown area. Another place is Knucklehead's, but it does not cater well to cigar smokers.
As for a bar... there is no smoking in any bars here as far as I know, but there is a place which I have frequently set up a hookah at (outside), it's a coffee shop on 4th South named "Coffee Break" - I am not sure if the rules have changed or not. Utah isn't smoker friendly in the slightest. |

Re: Salt Lake City
Well, I'm too late for the OP, but I thought I'd chip in anyway, just in case someone is planning on visiting SLC soon.
Jeanie's is nice - at least for pipes. I'm not a cigar smoker so I don't know about how good they are in that direction. I will say that they seem to have a big cigar selection, based solely on what I've seen. Knuckleheads also has a cigar section, but nothing as far as pipes go. It's definitely a bit 'alternative,' though. If you're looking for a pipe, you might want to look at Arley Curtz's - he's a local carver & as far as I know Jeanie's is the only place that sells his work. They're high quality pipes for mid-quality prices, & definitely worth a look. I just got one a week or so ago, and it's great. I know a friend of a friend of the guys who own SL Coffee Break, and I'm pretty sure they won't ban smoking (outside, of course) unless a law is passed against it. So for now we're safe. The coffee is kind of hit-or-miss. Sometimes it tastes a bit old, but usually it's OK. And their Turkish coffee is great. Coffee at the Coffee Garden or SL Roasting Company is more consistently high quality, but AFAIK they don't have a smoking area. Though there is an outdoors section at the Roasting Company, so maybe it's OK there. Sorry I missed you - I'm the only non-cigarette (and almost the only) smoker I know, & I would have loved to meet up. |

Re: Salt Lake City
Sorry I didn't get here in time... laptop crash.. ok no excuses, just sorry I'm late:
Here is the law: Utah Indoor Clean Air Act- Statute if you want to read it but basically there is no smoking anywhere indoors. Smoking must be done outdoors, 25ft from any door or open window. Yes it sucks here... municipalities can also take it further, which several have, banning smoking on golf courses and in parks. As you can see, not friendly place to smoke at all. Some bars are making open air and you can smoke in.(I just don't think they can have employees serve you there) Also, you can smoke on bar and restaurant patios if the establishment wants to allow it... but again, the smoking has to be done 25ft from doors and open windows. I host HERFs here and my last one was 12/31 because that was the last day to smoke in a bar. It's starting to warm up, so I'm going to start again next weekend 4/4, weather permitting. If you are in Utah, or traveling here and would like to meet for a cigar, please let me know at wm2slc@yahoo.com... If you live here, contact me about the HERFs... free cigars guys... Thanks Bill |
