'72 Chevelle SS 350, 4 on the floor, white bucket seats.

Ordered this new on my 17th birthday. Those days you could pick your colors and options and it was delivered to the dealer in a few weeks.

I loved driving this car... and the blonde in the passenger seat was "picked up" a few days after the purchase! :)

If I remember correctly it was a mercury monterey . I belive the year of vehicle was a 1950 something. It was my dads hand me down car. You could see the road underneath you, through the rusted out bottom. Also it had that funky rear inverted glass. I cant remember, but I think it had a button to put it up and down.

Much regards Jerry

I bought this car in 1970 and drove it my last 2 years in high school. It was a 68 Javelin w/4 speed 4BBl positraction. This car was really quick and got me lots of dates including LakeTahoe and Reno when I ditched school for the day.

My first was a '76 Chevy P/U regular cab long bed. Clean with nice chrome wheels and wide tires all around. Had a straight 6 with 3 on the tree, but it would light 'em up pretty good :z. My second was an '85 S-10 blazer. My third was a nice '85 white Z28 with leaky t-tops. Got stolen from a Sam's Club parking lot one night when I was working there. Never saw it again. Good thing I had full coverage, came out OK on the deal.

I had a 1989 Jeep Cherokee. I bought it from the water and sewer company. For $1,200. It had 110k miles on the inline 6. It was a maintenance truck. All vinyl, not a spot of carpeting anywhere. I wrecked it after a month or so, so after that it had gray primer on the front end, and the rest of the body was white. The most ugly thing ever, but I would love it if it was in my garage now to drive around every now and then.

My first car in high school came from me and my good friend from auto shop we built up a 1968 Chevy Impala from a rolling chassis that was gifted to me for free from my brother in law. We dropped in a gm crate 350 added some aluminum heads and intake,TH350 trani, a 4 barrel quadra jet carb, hooker headers and some dual exhaust, Topped it off with a midnight blue paint job, tinted windows, cd player with 2 12inch subs and the coup de grace some 16inch chromed cragars. Man i really do miss that car and the good time me and my buddys had in it not to mention the huge back seat :D LOL

Almost forgot. This was my sweet ride before I turned 16. Yep that's a genuine 1984 California Mongoose BMX. Original rims, Crank & Neck. I'm sorry I didn't want to have to post this & make everyone all jealous & stuff. But lets face it, that's one bad ass ride.

Actually, my dad had stored this for like 20 years, just brought it over and dropped it in my back garage. Blew my mind when I found it sitting in the corner. I think that I'm gonna fix it up a bit and hang it on the wall for nostalgia sake. Gawd knows my old 50 chevy & 64 Impala are long gone but I do "Technically" still have my first ride from high school. I can proudly say that I never...NEVER rode the "Cheese Wagon". Even if it did mean pedaling 5 miles in the rain when couldn't catch a ride with the old man. Managed to bum rides during the winter.

Sounds like my 78 Chevy P/U. It smoked more then I did. 20-50 Baby! I almost switched to gear lube (90) but I thought that the mosquito population was already taking to much "Collateral damage". That & all those letter form the EPA, DEC & PETA were a pain......I sold the truck. Pull into a gas station, fill the oil & check the gas.

hell yeah, it was all original too. my grandpa built a box that sat on the tranny hump and put a nice stereo in it and we jerry rigged some aftermarket speakers in the back window. i could roll five deep with my boys and plenty of room or just me and that special girl of the weekend LoL! good times

my first vehicle was a 1978 chevy PU. it had no fender wells in the bed and positrac so when i got off in the mud or sand i threw dual rooster tails up through the bed. it had glasspacks dumped after the cab, that beast roared. my friends called it blue thunder. it had a sky blue body with a white top on the cab. 350 with a four bbl carb, hauled arse!

I had a 1997 Chevy S-10. Extended Cab DARK Green and all the bells and whistles. I had a few gran in upgrade on it. Then the day after Christmas, 1999, I pulled out in front of a "clown car" Geo Prism 2dr and it F'd it and me up pretty good.Totalled out the truck, the only thing they could salvage was the driver side front quarter panel. The frame was bent so bad they had to use the jaws of life and numerous crowbars to get me n my buddy out. Blacked out 3 times b4 the Highway Patrol & ambulances could make it to us. That was my 2nd Concussion. The ER Dr when I had my 1st concussion said I wouldn't make it past a 2nd that the first was so bad it rattled me up pretty good. I proved him wrong!!!

I had a 1975 Harley Davidson Sportster and 1965 Datson Bluebird station wagon. The Harley was the first Vehicle I bought then I got the Car later on when it got colder out, Since I live in Michigan, it isn't a smart thing to drive a motorcycle in the winter months. I did try for a while though.(can you say ffffreezing)
The car had a crank handle started in the front of the grill in case the battery went dead and the electric starter didn't work on the car.
Those were the good old days for sure. Not like today's world.

Yeah, looks about late 70's, early 80's.
The curved window change happened in those years. Before that they were very boxy windows.

It gets you around don't it, that is all you need the thing for anyhow. It don't matter if it is a hot rod or a Mercedes as long as it does for you what it was made for.

1986 300zx - Man I loved that car, it was an absolute blast to drive. Got it in high school and drove it for a few more years until it was getting too expensive to fix. Pretty much every time I see an old Z driving around, I get the itch to look for one to pick up as a project car - and then I remember that I live in the real world. Maybe one day.

1966 Dodge Coronet that a bought from one of the guys in auto shop. It had a six cylinder in it. But that didn't matter as i had plans for it. I had bought a 340 with a six pack 4 speed trans Dana 410 rear. My buddy wrecked his Cuda so it became the donor car. I paid $300 for the Coronet as it had a fresh Sun-fire Yellow paint job mint black interior. $500 for the Donor Cuda but i got the Rims Graiger SS , headers basically anything i could swap out of the car including the K member an Z bar set up. A couple of weeks busting knuckles with the help of my friends and it was done. Insurance was cheap as on the title it was listed as a 6 cylinder. It was a sleeper if you let the clutch out hard in second gear it would spin em slide sideways a little.

I agree Sarge, that line of cars would never die. I added a ton of miles to it and was involved in two car accidents. A lady ran a stop light and t-boned me, and another time in the winter, a gal slid into me, glancing shot only. It had a new paint job at 120,000 miles and was in great shape. Just the slightest touch and you were through the windshield.

Man I am jealous of a lot of you guys, having such awesome first cars!

I bought a 78 Firebird on my 16th birthday, and drove it all through High School. It was silver, black pleather interior.

I love that car, so many great memories. Hanging out with friends, dating, street racing before Fast and The Furious ruined it for everyone, learning how to work on cars because I couldn't afford to take it to someone. Learning how to (and how to not to) make it fast because that's what it was all about.

The first time I met my wife, she was in my driveway sitting on the hood of the Firebird. (She had come over with some of my friends, we were all meeting up to go see a movie). The first words I ever said to my wife-to-be were "Get off my car". Three days later I was taking her out on our first date in it.

I still have it, it's sitting in the garage right now. I'm completely rebuilding it, as time and money allows.

1984 ramcharger, i turned 16 in 05, so it was old. but it was the best black you ever seen, previous owner dropped 4 grand on the paint job about 2 years before selling it. chrome bumpers, chrome mirrors, replaced the "milk man" mirrors with better looking ones, straight line grill, all badges were removed before paint job so it was nice and clean, and the best part, the owner had a charger he took to the drag strip but stopped using it, when the 318 in the ramcharger blew up, he tossed the modded 360 from the charger in it. it had a 2" lift and some 31" hurcules mud tires, and was of coarse four wheel drive, fun!

but it had wiring issues and i was always working on it, and sometimes you would hit the gas and find your face on the back windshield, other times it was slow as shit.... go figure.

about 6 months later i got a 94 ford ranger stick shift, 4x4, 4.2L v6, 2" lift 31" tires, brush gaurd and KC lights on the front, dam ngood mud truck because it was so lite weight.

The most accurate description of what I drove in high school was 'FOR SALE'. Family had a car dealership when I was in high school and Dad didn't want to pile miles on any one car so I drove many different vehicles...too many to list. 1976 Audi Fox white. It smelled like burning oil. The car had a bad gas filter behind the rear wheel. It would stop working at any time. The buddys and I would act like NASCAR guys and take the back wheel off and bang on the filter to get the car going again. It was a blast. Finally it burnt to the ground. I honked the horn at someone and a fire started in the dash. Burnt like it was made of wood. I guess it was all the oil leaking every where.

A 1970 Chevy Nova -- not the boss version but the tinny 6-cylinder. At some point, the cheap plastic lever on the heat/defrost control broke off and I had to use a concrete nail to move the lever.
My Dad bought and sold cars a lot so for a time I got to drive a 1971 Chevelle hardtop that would throw you against the seat when you punched the accelerator. My Dad wisely rationed use of said car. My wife and progeny thank him.

My parents werent into cars...so I had a 89 Pontiac sunbird. It was actuall really goo in the snow. The sad part was my downhill mountianbike on the roof rack cost more than the car.

A bicycle.

How times have changed - I live hear several schools now, and watch parents drive less than a mile to drop off their chubby kids at the school.

First car was a '74 Comet that I bought when I graduated. Lots of power, bad brakes. Interesting combination.

Same here. I absolutely loved the thing though! Drove it till I finished college, it had 350,000 miles on it and my dad talked me into selling it. I really didn't want to, and I'd love to have it back today if I had room for another car. But I love my boat more

Oh man i've seen cars like that allll over the place. Kinda funny when the stereo is worth more than the car. My friend was driving a dodge neon (worst looking vehicle ever!), and he ended up buying a watch that was worth about 4 times as much as the car. The speedo on that car would work whenever it felt like it, heat didn't work, then one day the hose to the rad decided to blow and spray anti-freeze everywhere. Looked like slimer from ghost-busters raided the car.

I had a 1992 Mazda MX3. Everyone said i was spoiled because I drove a little sporty car, but I worked my a** off to buy it. I ended up joining in on the import customization phase and put a high rear wing on it, repainted it with racing stripes and had neon on it. Those days are long gone now.

I was born in the wrong time, and grew up in a time when Mustang 5.0's were pretty much the closest thing to a "muscle car".

And I never came even that close in high school...My first car was a hand-me-down 1982 Mercury Zephyr Z-7. Straight 6, of course. No V8 for me.

At the end of my Senior year, I "upgraded" to a 1988 Dodge Shadow ES. I actually loved that car, and still miss it. Even though it was just a little 4 cylinder commuter car, the chicks actually loved it, and I had more girlfriends in those couple years than ever before. Even met my wife driving that car...

a maroon 1995 Pontiac Grand Am SE. It died around 116k miles because of a bad head gasket. I was going to college in a small town at the time and apparently nobody had the equipment to work on a DOHC engine. I would have had to tow the damn thing 3 hrs away.

LOL my first car was the sister to the Z-7...I had a 78 Fairmont Futura I-6 here too. I sold it in 1989 and got a 88 Ford Tempo GLS...the sporty two door. It was a nice looking car in the day.:dunno:

Had a hand me down 69 deuce and a quarter as well. Dark green with a vinyl top. Don't know what was under the hood. Had a great time with it. Just beat up enough to not care much about. But it was the party barge and I got roped into a lot of designated driving - back than drinking age was 18. I think we could get 4 guys in the trunk for the drive-in.

Wish I had kept it and re-done it.

I loved to drive my Dad's 72 eldorado. Black with Black hounds tooth (checkered) interior. Homecoming and prom was in that!

I graduated high school in 2001. Keep in mind, this was at the height of the import racing scene. I was a young Asain guy.

I started with a 1985 half-ton Dodge Ram. It was formerly owned by the state, and as such was a vibrant neon green-yellow, where there wasnt rust. After that, in 1999, an drove a 1989 Honda Accord, with about 245,000 miles, and a sizable dent in the rear passenger door. There was a brief stint in a Geo Metro wagon (yes, wagon), before ending high school with a Mazda B2200.

Meanwhile, my father, a 55year old white engineer from upstate NY, the kind of man who tucked his tshirts intohis boxers and wore black socks with sandals, drove a lowered Honda Civic SI, with chrome rims and and full exhaust.

Drove me nuts.

72 f-150 powered by a 302 with a 3 on the tree. No bed just a bunch of rough cut planks we mounted so it would pass PA inspection. Got that in 77 then upgraded to a 74 impala with a 400 small block in 79. It was nice having family hand me downs, but being the youngest of the family mechanics meant many weekends spent working on or helping work on the family fleet.

Almost 2 yo thread! My High school ride was a 1954 F 250 with a flat head V8 and a 4 on the floor tower shift with 1st being a granny gear. This thing even had split rims of some odd size like 17.5" and the only tires you could get were a super hard compound tire that slipped and slides if you drove through a puddle of spit. It was worked hard for 15 years as were all trucks back then. My father helped me weld sheet metal over most of the holes before I carefully applied a dirt brown color coat of paint with a brush. Trucks were for work, not status symbols.

As a senior in 1971 I got to ride my Father's 1955 1200 HD Panhead to school a couple times a month.

I drove a black 1999 Trailblazer with the etched headrests. Pretty decent car but got sh!t for fuel economy. I averaged somewhere around 14mpg I think (this was city driving though). But still that is costly as a high school student.

My car looked similar to this one but it had gold trim and gold/silver wheels with a different style.

So for whatever reason I can't get the pictures to actually show up in my post, but I made them attachments!

During high school I drove a 2002 Hyundai Sonata that my dad let me borrow

Once I graduated though I bought my own car.. 1991 Camaro with a 5.0L 305 V8. So far an awesome car to have, but there's still a few things that I have to fix up, seeing as it's the first car that I actually bought!

Also just for the record I graduated this year!
