Hygrometer issues

So I've run into a frustrating problem recently, and I could use some help. I have 4 hygrometers. 2 hydroset II's and 2 oregon scientific. When i salt test the 2 hydroset II i get a perfect 75 reading. Both oregon scientific are off, but I've made a note on each one with a label.

Now, here is the strange part, when i place all 4 in my cooler ( right next to each other) I get completely different reading from each other. The tow hygroset that read the same when salt testing differ by 4rh. What could be causing this? And how can i solve it?

If you can recommend a better hygrometer please do!

Re: Hygrometer issues

Can't answer your question but I have same situation with my two wallyworld Acu-rite humidity monitors. Usually about 3% different.

When I open the box for a few minutes, sometimes the difference is 5 or 6%.

Just a guess, it probably has to do with airflow.

In my case, it will be after leaving the cooler closed over night...so not airflow

Re: Hygrometer issues

If some are towards the top and some near the bottom, there will be some differential depending on the size of the cooler. Maybe that's all it is.

Man I wish I had something witty and inspiring to say. Or even a URL to share.

Nope, there are literally side by side on top of a cigar box.

Re: Hygrometer issues

These things aren't upper-echelon scientific grade equipment, they're consumer level. I figure a margin of error of +/- 2% is well within reason. So...if one was reading +2 and the other was reading -2, you're spot on and have nothing to worry about. If they were way off...like, say >5%...maybe I'd think about recalibrating or changing batteries.

As they're different brands, its also possible that they have different refresh rates, and they are BOTH correct!
