I've had a few "37's"
It would have been nice to know in advance lol.

One great big festering neon distraction

Like what's already been said, it's an advertisement ploy and a stroke of the creator's ego.
Ever seen this, "20XX Cigar of the Year"? It may have been 6 years long past, but they're milking it for all the revenue it can possibly generate. We all know that crops change year to year, so must the blend...no matter how good the blender. No one does blind ratings for magazines or ads, they all smoke'm with the bands on.
Ratings, awards, and accolades are like packaging and bands; they catch their fair share of unsuspecting flies, but the educated ones know to avoid the trap.

Update the ratings

Personally I donít use ratings as a method to buy anymore. My humidors are stocked full of unrated and low rates cigars that are delicious.

However!!!

I would love to see ratings based off of what actual experts of tobacco say about a crop....not paid for outfits that smoke a ton of cigars every day.

What does the leading Habano 2000 strain expert say about the 2017 crop?

What about the 2018 corojo vs the 2016?

How does the superb 2015 xyz blend with the 2016 abc?

But then tobacco blenders and companies would have to release their secret blends....wonít happen.

Iím also positive that the cigars these high profile outfits get to review are not the underfermented cigars that the masses receive anyway so the ratings scale is and always will be flawed

Slight rant and off topic within the topic...apologies lol

Heck, I don't think Cigar Aficionado's given under an 80 in like 20 years or something.

I suspect that if something has a bad rating, they just don't publish it.

It really is an 80-100 rating system.
