HB should work just fine, the Perique might linger for a bit is all.
I Actually Like CH for when I just want a simple smoke, like when I'm working and don't really have time to pay attention to a more complex tobacco.
CH gets recommended because it rarely gets hot and it builds a neutral cake quickly, it also burns to the bottom almost effortlessly.
Latakia is about the only thing that I advise against using to break in a new pipe.

I only asked because i didn't know that and just packed my new pipe with haunted bookshop last night.. Good to know i didn't oops it right or of the gate lol.

@NightFish Not trying to overwhelm you, but I hated Carter Hall as well. I do really like Sir Walter Raleigh. Great plum/date sweetness with a nutty component, as well. That’s just me.
