Re: Ever try a Kinky Friedman?

I've tried several sizes and they're pretty good. Not great, but pretty good. And they better with age.

On CI the KFs are currently on sale for about $65/box. May be a good deal? BTW, it occurred to me that if Kinky Friedman started a chicken restaurant it would be Kinky Fried Chicken.

That's kinda scary, funny but scary. I've had both a robusto and toro sized KF. Decent typical Dominican flavours, good for mowing the lawn.

Re: Ever try a Kinky Friedman?

I've read in the cigar-articles of yesteryear that Kinky Friedman is a Habana cigar lover, and wanted to personally make & design his own equivalents. So he approached the Camacho brothers to manufacture his cigars for him, and you know, they specialize in Honduran tobacco. I've tried his Kinkycristo a couple of times. Those of you who I'm sure like Carlos Torano's cigars - you do know that's who's made Gurkha cigars which many of you seem to detest. Well, I do enjoy Camacho cigars - and I would equate Kinky Friedman's selections in the same was as Torano's Gurkhas. The Kinkycristo (which is a torpedo - you know, Montecristo-style) is -uhm- okay... hwell: You probably won't HATE them...but I think I'm good now. So no need to acquire additionals

Re: Ever try a Kinky Friedman?

I saw singles on CBid for $2 a pop. Might want to grab a couple up and see what I think. How can I pass up trying a cigar called the "Texas Jew Boy"?

Re: Ever try a Kinky Friedman?

I had a texas jew boy the other day, I didnt even finish it. Got it as a single off cigarbid, and was not surprised they go for $3, feel bad for anyone who paid more or bought more than one.

Just out of curiosity, what was it that offended your tastes buds so much when you smoked it?

I usually keep notes on each cigar, however, i did not even track why. My only recollection was the terrible taste, and lousy draw... Maybe i got a bad one, but not willing to find out.

Re: Ever try a Kinky Friedman?

Thanks- I was just wondering if it was a flavor thing, or perhaps a quality/construction issue. Sounds like it might have been a mixture of both.

Re: Ever try a Kinky Friedman?

I actually like them, but you do not want to smoke them until they have rested a while after shipping (a few months). That is because they smoke better dry (humidity in the 65 range) imho.

Since most SHPOs over-humidify it dosen't surprise me that they bombed at retail outlets and hit the CI bargain bin.
