Trouble lighting during day

Does anyone else have an issue sometimes seeing the flame hit the cigar during the day to make sure its evenly lit?

Yep, but I'm usually doing 75 down the highway. lol

Seriously, The flame should never touch the cigar. Keep your torch a few inches away to be sure... the heat will toast and light the cigar.

I donít see the light of my torch when I light during the day but I know how far from the cigar to position it (just based on previous usage). I also go by feel knowing how long it should take to toast, finishing up by a slow long puff with a torch still going (at which point you should see the cherry)

I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly.

I always had trouble when trying to toast the foot with a soft flame during the day. Especially if there was a breeze.

Nowadays I tend to use a butane jet-type torch and only have to be careful not to get too close. But you're right- it's still easier to see and gauge distance when the sun is down. After a while, you kind of just get used to your lighter and get a feel for how far away the foot should be. Sort of like buttoning a dress shirt with your eyes closed; probably would have been difficult the first time, but now I'll bet you don't even have to look in the mirror.

I usually light up my cigar right before I go outside. Also depends on the ring gauge of the cigar what lighter I use. Anything 46 ring gauge and under gets the single jet and anything larger gets the triple jet.

Thanks for the help. My flame dosent actually touch the foot, just getting the distance and angle right seems tougher during the day

Even in daylight finding a dark background, if you can, will help you see the flame.

I have a lighter somewhere that has a bright red flame . That's a nice remedy if you can find em.

I'm relegated to using a bic at the moment and have cataracts in both eyes and have pretty bad vision so I have issues on occasion but can usually get the job done without much issue.
