American Lung Assoc grades states on fighting evil tobacco
I saw an article in the local paper today about the American Lung Association's grades of how the state of Colorado was surpressing tobacco use. I was curious about how other states were graded and which states had the best and worst overall grades according to the Lung Assocation folks.
One state - Maine - got all A's. That fits with the recent news about Bangor banning smoking in your own car if a minor was present. Several tobacco growing states got all F's. I made the following map showing the overall total results (A=5pts, F=1pt, totalled across 4 grade categories.) Darker colors represent higher grades - more restrictions on where to smoke, more restrictions on youth access, more spending on prevention, and higher cigarette taxes.
