Appomattox Day

April 9, 1865: Lee surrenders to Grant at Appomattox Court House, Virginia.

Damnyankees. Couldn't just leave well enough alone. If not for them, I'd be sitting on the veranda of the big house on the family plantation in Louisiana, sipping a mint julep, enjoying a nice big seegar, and generally living the good life. Now I have to work for a living. Damnyankees.

Re: Appomattox Day

Believe it or not, many of us in the north have tremendous respect for General Lee. I believe that he did what he thought was right when he took command of the Confederacy and loved his country so much on both sides that he surrendered when he realized that more death would accomplish nothing. In addition, part of his estate is now Arlington National Cemetery. There are few historical figures in America that I respect as much as I respect General Robert E. Lee. I only wish that this war never took place. Paul

Ugh... I hope this was a joke. I hate it when people act like the whole war between the states was actually fought over slavery.

It wasn't, but the Union's victory in The war of Southern Aggression certainly led to it. We could say it was one of many fortunate byproducts of northern victory (as well as a powerful propaganda tool).

That was actually something from my high school history textbook. "The American Civil War, sometimes referred to as The War of Southern Aggression..."

No wonder y'all are so messed up up there. That history book probably said we fought against China in World War II, as well.
