Is Samuel Gawith up to something?

Nothing but 250g and 1 Lb boxes. Its like they want to eliminate those customers that are buying for the first time in small amounts due to all the hype they have heard or eliminate those who buy for quick turnaround purposes. Those most likely to buy SG in large quantities are those who have tried it, like it and want to stash more.

agree?

On a side note: I got a text that Mars now has it in stock.ink:

Probably easier (and faster) for them to pack and ship bulk packages than individual tins.

+1

My paranoid side wants to think that SG's marketing campain is a series of carefully plotted devious maneuvers to gain maximum profit and yield a ravenous desire for their product.

But for a company that seems to keep it simple, i'm sure its just the cheapest, fastest, and easiest way to do it.

It seems like a lot of the manufacturers go through this same thing, and SG has been in this hole frequently in recent years. Just another reason you need a standby that is ALWAYS available. John Middleton is the MAN! PA All The Way!

Re: Is Samuel Gawith up to something?

I don't get the gripe (if there is any). It's significantly cheaper per ounce. If someone is willing to spend $9 for 50g, and they've read the rave reviews, spending $25 for 250g is not much of a leap at all.

Using mars cigars prices:

50g for $8.75 = 17.5 cents per gram
250g for $23.50 = 9 cents per gram! That's nearly half price!
453.5g (1lb) for $52.95 = 11.6 cents per gram

Bulk is the best buy. At worst, you end up something you don't care for, but it's a highly tradable commodity.

I can't be the only one who looks at price per ounce or gram, can I? These days, I buy almost exclusively in bulk, and I won't stock up on blends that don't have a bulk option/discount. Sorry Irish Flake and Aged Burley Flake. Talk to me when you're 250g tins at a cut rate. I can't justify spending over $90 a pound on those blends. Sure a pound is lot of pipe smoking, but $90 dollars!? I won't do it.

Any man who checks his watch while smoking his pipe is doing it wrong.

Re: Is Samuel Gawith up to something?

Even if that is the case, I have no problem with it. What's important to me is to get the tobacco, I don't care about tins. They could just sell everything in 1lb plugs and I wouldn't mind.

Re: Is Samuel Gawith up to something?

Well, I'll admit to being a sucker for the tins. It's part of the 'luxury enhancement' that I look for in smoking. That said, I certainly wouldn't pass up a favorite smoke just because I could only find it in bulk. The tobacco is the point, after all.

Re: Is Samuel Gawith up to something?

If you are really looking for tins of GS SL check out mrsnuff. I got a tin of SL and a tin of FVF from them yesterday in the mail. They do ship oversees and it is more expensive, but if you HAVE to have it in a tin, id check there. Send them an email first to make sure they still have it.

I also only wanted to get tins because I have not tried them yet and didnt want to get a huge amount. hope this helps.
