Question Do you get a buzz when you smoke?

Hey everyone, I noticed years ago that when I smoked a cigar I got a little buzz just from the smoke in my mouth. Recently I started smoking pipes again but it had been a long time ago, and I've noticed that I get a little buzz or a kick as I move the smoke around my mouth.

Does anyone else get this small buzz from their pipe smoking? Just curious.

I only get a buzz at the end of a bowl if I smoke a blend high in nicotine. The buzz, however, is not pleasant.

Thanks Piper I agree with you, I guess I'm still learning and will have to smoke many bowls before I master this. Btw, I didn't know there was such a thing as blend high in nicotine. Oh well I'll get there

@Prozac, in case you haven't already discovered them, here are a few resources you might want to check out to help you climb the pipe-smoking learning curve. Reading and watching videos about pipe smoking is part of the fun of the hobby—although it does tend to stoke your PAD (pipe acquisition disorder)!

1)On PUFF.com, check out Pipe Smoking Tips for Cigar People. Despite the title, it isn't just for cigar smokers. There is a ton of good information here from your pals on the pipe threads.

2)YouTube, has a ton of great pipe videos on every topic. Just search for "packing a tobacco pipe," "meerschaum pipes," etc.

YouTube presenter MuttnChop Piper is a perennial favorite. His "Just the Basics" is a good place to start but he has many more "how to" videos.

Bradley at StuffnThings is great for tobacco reviews.

I also happen to enjoy Mike Gluker of Briar Blues.

3)SmokingPipes.com and TobaccoPipes.com have a ton of well-written essays and blog posts about pipe smoking. SP also has YouTube videos on pipe basics, tobacco reviews and other interesting pipe stuff.

4)For information on tobacco blends, Tobaccoreviews.com is the bible. That's where you can find out, for example, whether a particular tobacco has a high nicotine content.

For information about pipe brands, Pipedia.org is ... encyclopedic.

If you want to identify a pipe from its markings, or determine the date of manufacture, Pipephil.eu the place to start.

Good luck on your pipe-smoking voyage. Great to have you on the forum.

That's about right for me too. I probably get a tad of a "pick me up" before it gets unpleasant.

Ultimately I think I just don't fully know how to smoke a pipe yet. But I've only had one for a few weeks. Thanks everyone for your daily help.

Wow! thanks so much for the videos you posted Piper!
I'm learning so much and there is much to learn.

I know making a detailed list like you did and adding all those links took some time.
I really appreciate it, Piper.

Thanks a million, Prozac

It took mre about 8 years before I really understood and fell in love with pipe smoking. It's very subtle and nuanced. Just keep at it ( when you feel like it) and one day you'll realize that you're a card carrying pipe smoker.
