That's a beautiful meer. I did nothing special to baby mine. Didn't worry about getting oil from my hands on the bowl or trying to get it to color. Just smoked it and swabbed out the bowl per usual. Having said that, I've heard that those beautiful and intricate lattice carvings can be broken if you're not aware of what you're doing. Luckily, a little ding won't affect the smoke. I don't know how your mortise is constructed but with many of them you have to rotate the stem clockwise when you're removing or replacing it. Enjoy!

Oh and don't push a pipe cleaner into the shank until the pipe is throughly dry as it can wear a groove in the heel near the draft hole.

Donít drop It! Wipe it out after each smoke, you donít want cake in a meer.

I disagree.. just drop it now and get it over with..

Seriously, be very careful unscrewing thre stem when some tar builds up. It'll get real ugly, real quick.

That's how mine is also. I almost broke the stem the first time I took it apart because I had no idea about it being screwed in. Would have been an expensive lesson learned.

I have quite a few of them. They are pretty easy to smoke and donít need only a daily cleaning, but they can be messy. Cleaning the stem is important and as Dino said be very careful not to snap that connection.
