Anyone have any recent experience?
They popped up on an email this morning, so of course it piqued my interest....

I did a box-split when they were first released, though at a much higher price. Smoked most of them very young and they were okay, but just okay. They're considerably more appealing at the sale price, especially if some time to mature improves them. I have one left that's now been marinating for about a year (1-1/2 yrs by the box code). I'm going to fire it up now. Will report back in a bit.

I've smoked a handful and my review mirrors Jack's experience. I would like to think with more time they'd come around, but I did enjoy them.
Edit: I found them lacking any standout qualities. Not that it was bad, just not that memorable. If offered at a decent price (like which is being offered now) I would look at others in the same range first.

Thanks!

I'd also be curious to hear how long it takes you to smoke it, too.

Looks like it would be so short that it would be over by the time it got good. *Story of my life*

I don't know what I don't know.

  • Still showing a good deal of youth, and getting a little bit of ammonia in the final inch.
  • 35 minute smoking time, though perhaps more if I slowed down a bit.
  • Considerably open draw, which suits me extremely well but contributes to the quick burn time.
  • Very woody and leans to the herbal side with some mineral aspect at times.

The size is barely larger than an HUHC, which, frankly, is really a better cigar that can be found for about a buck apiece less. But for the sake of variety I'm going to grab a box of these RyJ's on the sale. However, I plan to bury it deep and try not to touch 'em for at least 2 or 3 years, if not longer.

We aim to please! LOL

Really @Scap's post just reminded me I still had one left I could check out to help make my own buying decision too. I was already contemplating them when I got the same email earlier. I paid half-again as much when they first hit the market and was down on them at that price. But today's sale price puts them about where the should be.

Yeah, not bad and too be written off. Just missing something. I hope Jack is right and they were just young, and haven't blossomed yet. I don't have the experience yet to call it on this side of the market considering the patience level needed is in the varsity leagues when compared to the NC cigars where a year or two is usually long enough. I'd be willing to give it another shot though
