Trinidad Ingenios EL 2007 Review
I was gifted this cigar by a very generous botl after herfing at the MMH III in Florida so I want to kick this off by thanking onlyonerm for the cigar and the opportunity to review it. Thanks, Roger!
The construction on this cigar was outstanding. The wrapper was a beautiful chocolate brown color. I was looking forward to smoking this cigar and reviewing it particularly because this was the first year that the EL's used aged wrapper, binder, and filler.
The cap had the signature Trinidad pigtail. The prelight draw was firm but not too firm. Just the right amount of resistance for my taste.
The first third was very rich with hints of cedar, spice, coffee, and cocoa. For me, this was very different than any of the other Trinidads I have tried.
The second third maintained that rich flavor that it started with. The spice, coffee, and cocoa intensified. I was definitely enjoying this cigar.
The last third was more of the same... in a good way. I kept trying to put into words what I was tasting and I kept coming back to the richness of the cigar. There was a chocolatey/coffee/cedar/spice that permeated my palate. It continued to intensify over the last third. I typically look for and enjoy when a cigar changes throughout. It's what I love about Cuban cigars in particular. This cigar didn't have those changes but it was enjoyable none-the-less. In this case the consistency was a plus.
I think this cigar is one I could definitely say I'd like to try down the road. It would be interesting to see the aging potential of this cigar and I believe it's one that will age well; with it's layered flavors and rich taste.
It's difficult for me to rate this cigar, or any cigar for that matter. So much of my taste is determined by what I'm doing, who I'm with, and my general mood that it's tough for me. If pressed I'd give it a 90 out of 100. I enjoyed the richness and overall taste and think this cigar has superb aging potential.
Thanks again, Roger!
