Re: Remake or original???

When I see a movie that I know is a remake, I always try to check out the original as well.

"The Day The Earth Stood Still" comes to mind for me. The original was a masterpiece of creepiness. They didn't have the special effects that we do....and this movie shows that they didn't need them. The remake really showcased Keanu Reeves and showed that he really is a great actor and not just the other half of "Bill and Ted", and the special effects were phenomenal. They were very different movies IMO, and I liked them both equally, but in different ways.

Any horror fans? "I Spit on Your Grave" the original was an absolute classic. The rape scene was particularly brutal....it just seemed to go on and on and on. Not for the faint of heart. The remake was good as well, but it lacked the raw power of the original, IMO.

I agree 100% with the Italian Job. I saw the remake 4 times in the theatre. Also loved the Ocean's 11 remake.

Re: Remake or original???

I am typically an Original lover but there are a few remakes out there that I think are great. Most recently, I really like the remake of True Grit. I thought John Wayne in the original wasn't as "Grity" as he should have been.

Re: Remake or original???

Generally I'm drawn to originals, as I've only seen a few decent remakes in my opinion. I still would like to know who it was that thought remaking Rear Window was a good idea.

Remake or original???

Didnt see a thread like this so I thought I'd start it. I just watched the original Oceans 11 starring the rat pack and must say that I like the remake more. So I started thinking of other movies that I liked the remake more or the original more. Anyone else have a movie that you either loved the original more or the remake more? Or maybe you really hated the remake. Lets discuss.
