I've been on the cigar side for about a month, and just picked up one of @UBC03's pipes he was selling! Dabbled in pipes a few years ago and got discouraged by lack of success. I did try several aromatics I enjoyed.. Lanes 1-Q, CAO Moontrace. And a few I found to taste like diesel covered tobacco (cpt black cherry). Didn't venture into the English or Latkia realm at all. Look forward to having more blogs to browse with the addition of pipes to my list of hobbies!
I always sent a pouch of CB to guys just starting because they can get it anywhere. So if they like it they don't have to go online and order more.. I'm no fan either.

We all have different tastes and our tastes don't stay static. They evolve and sometimes reverse themselves over time. I smoked CB White for many years and enjoyed it. I ventured into VaPers and English blends but never could quite enjoy them until the past few years. Now I actually prefer them to aros. Even so, a good flavorful, non-goopy aromatic is a treat every now and then. Actually, I find unflavored cavendish adds softness, sweetness and smokeability to almost any blend. For example, I prefer Davidoff Flake medallions and PS LBF, which have a cavendish center to most straight VaPers.
Welcome to the pipe side. Things are a little more reserved over here. We put our pinkies out when we drink our tea and we certainly don't mention all the things we thought about when we saw @Hickorynut's photo of Alice.
If you're thinking of venturing outside of aromatics, try tobaccoreview, it's an excellent site to research different tobaccos. You'll see blends categorized by the different types of leaf, Virginia, Oriental, Latakia, perique, burly.... there's a lot of different stuff out there with different characteristics. That'll at least give you a direction on where to go.
